FL Private CG North Beach

Discussion in 'Southeast' started by SarahNell_and_Robert, Aug 14, 2013.

  1. We opted for a quick trip to St. Augustine but being summertime in Florida, the state parks in the area were booked solid. We stumbled upon North Beach and were so pleasantly surprised.

Standard electric & water ran about $50/night and if you were able to get a riverfront spot, it was higher but the full-timers seem to keep the riverfront spots taken.

The RV park itself is such a great piece of property situated directly on A1A, 5 miles north of St. Augustine. It stretches straight back from A1A to the Tolomato River with it's own private salt water river access and beach area, fishing pier and directly next door to long running Kate's Restaurant and a public boat landing. On the opposite side of the property across A1A, the park owns the beach front property as well and it's extra parking if you wanted to drive/golf cart to the beach side or just store a car away from your campsite.

The park itself features a really nice in-ground swimming pool, horseshoes all through the property, shuffleboard and basketball courts. The front desk was really helpful in suggesting the better suited available spots for our teardrop and we scored a lovely corner spot tucked away in the shade.

For August in Florida, I would have never believed it would be as cool and lovely in the evenings but based on this property being bordered by the ocean and the river, the breeze that runs straight through is marvelous! We could have slept outside. It was really nice that the property wasn't clear cut years ago for an empty park, but instead it's all dirt roads and full natural foliage everywhere. Driving in at night, all we could see were strings of Christmas lights through the trees/bushes but not a single camper until morning time.

We will definitely be back here for many more quick trips. If you're interested in St. Augustine, I'd call here for sure.

We book our trips well in advance...Florida State Parks are really a great value. But it is true...you have to book 'em Danno.....or you won't get a spot! Next week we will be at Gamble Rogers at Flagler Beach and I booked it in Feb 2013!!!!
We were at Anastasia State Park St. Augustine about 4 weeks ago and the bugs weren't bad...no mosquitos but lots of house flies when the cooking started. I would not recommend Florida summer camping too much. Fall, winter and early spring it's GREAT!!!!!

  4. fpoole—we didn't have have any problems compared to other recent summer spots. Never even pulled out a thermacell during the evening. I did light a citronella candle to set aside while cooking just so a few wouldn't crowd the galley light, but not because we were being eaten by them:)

We stayed surprised the whole time, but this definitely was a testament to that exact spot and that ocean breeze. Inland Florida, as any other inland southern spot, would surely be much more buggy.

I'll add a few photos over in the Gallery .
