Movie Night!

Novice
Our daughter (well, all of us actually) had a lot of fun watching "Brave" by the fire this weekend as we camped at Guadalupe River State Park.

The photos don't do the movie's resolution any justice because of the flash. t's actually in 720p. We show our movies through a tiny little pico projector from our iPhones or iPad. We originally used a movie screen, but now we just use a white sheet and t still looks great! For sound, we use the phone's Bluetooth to connect to our Bose Soundlink Mini. Components are so tiny now...they take up hardly any room. The projector is only about twice the size of the iPhone and has a strong LED bulb.

Typically, we camp to get outside...but sometimes it's fun to pop popcorn over the fire and watch a movie with the kids!

That sure looks like fun. Have you ever set the projector on the top bunk in your 560 and watch "big screen" movies inside?

Mike & Denita-

Actually, that was our original intent! We were going to have the folks at Camp-Inn hardwire some outlets there, etc. We even bought a small pull-down screen for inside and everything. Then we took the rental 560 our for 3 weeks and decided we wouldn't use it enough indoors to justify that.

On that trip we were camping at a "RV Park" (we'll try to never do that again) and were surrounded by all this huge campers. When we had an outdoor movie night, all the kids kept coming by saying, "Wish we were camping with you guys!"

This is awesome! I have pondered this idea for the house, but now you have my gears turning, which means Mick will probably have a project soon (I try to keep him busy, otherwise he gets bored...right Mick?)!

Thank you!

D&V-

Sweet. What brand/model of pico is that? Now that you've had some experience with it, would you still get the same one?

I would absolutely get the same pico! I'm kind of a tech "gadget guy" and did a lot of research before I pulled the trigger. It's a Brookstone HDMI Pocket Projector and it has fantastic ratings. The lamp is LED so no expensive bulbs to burn out, the internal battery can last up to 2 hrs, but we typically plug it in. You can also use a 1/8" audio cable for sound, but it does have a very small internal speaker. It comes with lots of attachments, but if you use an iPhone or iPad you'll need the Av adapter or Lightening Adapter (depending on your phone/iPad model).

This set up works like a charm. We use it with the Bose Soundlink Mini and it sounds amazing!

One other thing, if you're a camera buff and have a tripod handy, the pico has a mounting nut built in so you can use your tripod, too! We were going to use this to mount it either from the top bunk or the ceiling...but opted not to.

I'll second Dan's suggestion to get the same unit Dan is using. Before Dan showed me this one I had done a ton of research on Pico projectors. The thing I kept getting frustrated with was the poor resolution on all of them. Then Dan showed me this one, and it actually has very good resolution.

Oh Gawd.....
Slipping, slippppping I am.. kewl...

I orginally got a 32" tv flat screen with the DVD player in it but was a little big to lug around... I saw an older version of this at a campsite a few years ago for a group of "Jet Skiers" (remind me to camp Far-Far Away...) but it was kinda kewl and loud...

Anyway, that setup looks ideal...

and if parking in an RV park with the big boys?
Just make Lemonade with the lemons..
and if they park too close..
pick a white one and use their side as the screen.
heheh... payback for the Generators eh???

and I like the BluTooth speaker, I just put it on the wish list for "Nellie" Slip-slip-slipp'n down the accessory slide... sigh...

Great outside movie setup Dan and Vanessa, I love that the big RV kids wish their folks we're cool enough to be teardroppers, just love that!

Yeah, Michael, that was funny! Of course, they were welcome to join us! Funny, with all these big rigs around, we still had to have an "open house" 2-3 times a day! The cool thing is that with the Camp Inn it's not a "freak show" sort of interest...once they see the camper, each and every one seems legitimately amazed and impressed.

Yes Dan, the 1st time we experienced this I was kind of bewildered, I thought when the big RV folks came by for a look they were merely slumming and having a good laugh at the pathetic souls in that puney trailer. However it kept happening and we would hear the same big RV complaints, can't cook inside because of the noxious smells, everything breaks, too big to manouver horrible on gas etc... Who knows maybe all y'all Camp-Inn owners are making some converts every time you go camping.

Michael

What's funny is when the curious walk by two or three times "glancing" at the setup. Sometimes it's easier just to invite them in and "get it over with."
