It's been a great year for migrating birds - here's the latest from the back yard feeders.

And one 'regular' who doesn't usually stick around for pictures:

Those are great photos, Ken. My mother would go nuts if she saw them.

Our oldest son is also a free-lance photographer and takes great photos of birds of the Air Force type - he was at Barksdale AFB last week taking pictures of the big birds during an air show - said he got a seat at the end of the runway away from all the people and they flew directly over his head and he was able to take pics of them as they were taking off as well as right on top of him...

I'd post some pics but I seem to be mentally challenged when it comes to posting pics for some stupid reason!

Chicago Air & Water Show 'birds'

Thanks for the comments, it's a fun hobby. Here are a few from the Chicago Air & Water Show a couple years ago. THAT was very cool to see!

Those are some great shots! I'd like to share them with our son Mike and maybe let you two hook up via email - would that be ok with you? PM me if you agree and I'll let him know too. LOVE those birds! (Of all types!) You do great work!

Thanks. That'd be fine with me. Here's a link to most of the birds I've shot over the last couple years. Ken Gilbertsen's Bird Gallery

Super good shots of the birds. Are they for the most part taken at your home? You have quite an array of birds.

Re: Chicago Air & Water Show 'birds'

Thanks George. Most of them were shot right in the back yard. This year there have been birds that I've not seen before - I'm not sure if it's weather related or just that I haven't paid as much attention in the past. There's usually a good couple weeks while they're migrating and then they're off to Canada, eh?

Jay and I are rather partial to the raptors, and when we saw the eagles at last years CICO, and then seeing your pictures of the eagles, really enlighted us. Your photos are so sharp. Excellent work.

    Cooper's Hawk

Here's a Cooper's Hawk that comes around pretty regularly to feed on the birds who are eating at our feeders. (He's got 'breakfast' in his talons.)

I think the hawk is the best picture yet. Steve :)

    Ken,
great bird pictures. We had an indigo bunting at our deck feeder yesterday. The only other time I had seen one way a fly through on a walking path. That was really fun. Our humming birds are back yesterday also.
