Mini Toolkit

Sadly, I recently lost my Leatherman Multitool. The top of the line Leatherman (Leatherman ARC) is very expensive ($230) and I found many of the tools awkward to use. So instead of replacing it, I decided to put together a mini toolkit. This entailed watching (way too many :)) hours of YouTube videos on EDC toolkits. It was a lot of fun picking everything out and I thought I would share with the group what I came up with. Everything is contained in a 5 x 7 inch zippered pouch that easily fits in the glove compartment of my truck. Will include a few photos and links to each tool. The kit ended up being more that the Leatherman ARC but in my opinion, much more useful and easier to use. Yes, I have a little prepper in me!

Lots to take in here! I EDC a super tool, but it has a lot of gaps in its use....I'm going to need to look at this kit closely. Like the knipex --- those are amazing tools!

Ya, the Knipex Cobra adjustable pliers were included in almost all the EDC toolkit reviews that I watched.

Very well thought out tool kit, an excellent collection to be sure!

  6. I think the two standouts, that don't make regular appearances in any sort of emergency kit, are the multi-blade saw and the mini-pry bar.

The saw fills that wide gap between any sort of cutting that a firewood type of device would perform, and the wholly inadequate saw-cutting abilities of anything that is on a multi-tool or a utility knife.

For the pry-bar, you are hard-pressed to come up with many situations where you would need it... until you really need it. And it saves you from damaging your other tools, when asking them to perform a function they were never designed to do.

    Well thought out.

    No hammer!?
Oh, that's right, any tool is a hammer if you abuse it bad enough...

I thought about a mini hammer! Couldn’t really find one that would fit in my kit.

Here is the trick with a mini hammer, having carried a tool kit like this on a Harley chopper for years. Get a small hammer like a ballpeen with a wooden handle and simply cut the handle short enough to fit in the kit.

Man I love this forum! Ima geek out on this gear for some time...!
I seriously need these ideas as I've got stuff stashed here, there, everywhere in CI, trunk, TV cubbies and overlaps in fancy schmancy tool box there...camp tools, etc asking myself; Self, do I really need a viking throwing axe?

The buddha end of the camping spectrum per advice long time CIers say is "to pare it down"-
and I have way too much stuff that all needs to be better organized...

And live in one place in the CI, or TV....
Gotta be ready to go in 5min when the camping fever hits, or...

    For the Big Glampapocalyse.
I'm going in style, is my motto!

  11. This isn't what I would consider to be part of a "mini" kit, or carry with me on the motorcycle:

... but it does go in the front compartment with the folding saws, makes kindling, and steps up whenever something needs an indelicate, indiscriminate pounding.

    Another dual-triple-duty piece of kit.

  12. ... in case when you ask that person at the check-in about firewood, at that sketch campground you pulled into, and they point to that pile of whole skids beside the office.;)

I keep telling my wife that when the zombie (or election) apocalypse hits we will be ready! Of course, she just shakes her head and smiles. Good clean fun I say!

How many MRE's or MountainHouse can you fit where? I like Sweeney and Jill? Solution of using those organizer bags for socks etc...now I'm geeking out on the idea of long term provisions by custom shrinkrapped to fit CampInn cabinets and floor storage
    Day 1, Day2, Day3, etc etc

    Cue the Mad Max music...

Have to admit, have a two week supply of dehydrated food……and some snares when that runs out. Have to stop watching Alone!

    Love that show!
I cannot see sleeping in a rock hut in Kodiak in the winter...maybe the CampInn with a G6 and extra propane tanks...and MountainHouse cooks up pretty good, jetboil or MSM multi fuel back in the day.

    Snares...what brand?
