McNugit Inaugural Camp Out

Yet another spontaneous decision, (what's happening to me!!), we are heading up to Shenandoah National Park early in the morning, for our first official camping trip with our McNugit! Our #3 son, Thomas, generously agreed to stay for an extra few days to take care of Grandpa so we could get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. We plan on hitting either Loft Mountain or Big Meadows. Now it's a mad rush to get everything planned and packed, but we are thrilled!! Hoop-de-doo!!!

Enjoy! Our goal is to one day get everything set up so well, that we don't have to pack... just hook up and go. But, so far we have done the mad rush every time... :)

Even though spring doesn't officially start until tomorrow, the weather is beautiful here in the NW too. Makes me want to get out and go this weekend. Have fun - spontaneous trips and decisions are exactly what teardropping is about!

Evan,
Give it a couple of years and it will get easier. We have it down to just throwing in few clothes and food that we need. It also depends if we are going just for the weekend or for a longer trip as to the extras needed like chairs, DO's or pie irons, charcoal or wood fire, etc...
It is nice to have food pre-cut and pre-measured for meals. Like for my DO pie crisp, I pre-measure all ingredients and put them in an extra water bottle all ready to dump into the DO. I like to cut up veggies, carrots, peppers, broccoli etc... to have ready to go also. Any thing to make relaxing on the camp out easier.

I'm with Tina on this one. In addition to the things she suggested, there are some prepackaged dry good foods/staples that we put in the tear & leave there...less to get & pack when you want to go.

Also, I will precook things like chicken, ground beef or sausage, vacuum seal them & freeze them. Then they are ready to throw in the cooler & can slowly thaw out while helping to keep the food cold. It cuts down on having raw meat, & added mess/cook/cleanup.

Because our teardrop (#2) was the first demo unit & then was loaned out to numerous people over the years, I could never keep our stuff in it. So, for years, I have had everything (from stuff in the galley to everything in the cabin) in Rubbermaid totes that had to be packed, unpacked into the teardrop & repacked every time we went somewhere. Tina can vouch for this, as we have camped together many times. We use the tear A LOT & not just for camping. I was like a kid at Christmas when, last Spring, after our camper had some major updates, I finally got to set up our tear, add things for storage that I wanted, unpack everything into it & leave it that way. Now she is good to go within 30 minutes, depending (like Tina said) on where we are going & how long we are staying there.

You will always be keeping an eye out for things you can add or change, that's part of the fun. The nice part about having had to do it the way I did was that I had time to figure out exactly what I wanted & not be in a rush to get it. Also, seeing what others do is a great way to get a variety of ideas. So try different things & do what works for you. :)

We had a fantastic first outing with our McNugit. We LOVE everything about it! Especially, listening to the rain on the roof, and not having to endure wet tent sides, and a bouncy air mattress! We have a long list of little things to add to our supplies, but all in all, we are very satisfied with all of the "extras" we've been accumulating since the first day we ordered our Camp-Inn! Add us to Camp-Inn's long list of satisfied customers!

Here's a link to my facebook album of our weekend.

There are seemingly a lot more steps involved in being able to post and link images from a mac with the new FTP site you have set up.

Isn't it amazing to actually ENJOY the sound of rain overhead while camping! I remember tent camping as a boy, and waking up at night to the worst imaginable sound... and then trying to finish out the night in a half wet sleeping bag. :(

Congrats on your maiden voyage! It's so much easier to sleep while its raining when you're in a TD, isn't it?
When I tried to look at your picture album I could only see the 1st shot. Do I need to have a Facebook account to see the rest?

Thanks Ken & Peggy! Not sure about the FB account. I know they have been having "issues" lately. I think I will try Evan's new mode of picture posting next. In the meantime, I tried reposting the link.

It worked. Pictures are great - looks like you've been TD'ing for years! We are hoping to get to Shenendoah for some backpacking either this fall or next, it looks beautiful.
