    thank you for the tips

In exchange of your nice tips, I hereby hand over my secret margarita recipe. If you are gonna drag a margarita machine with you, then you deserve first class ingredients. Don't worry - it still tastes good even with cheap tequila!!

Cazadores Tequila, 2 oz. More expensive than the cheap stuff, but not very expensive. Put the botrtle of Cuervo on the bar and step away with your hands raised. :)

Limes - about one lime/drink. The sweeter the lime, the better.

Lemon - about 1/2 Meyer (sweet) lemon/drink. Or 1/4 "normal" lemon.

Agave Syrup. Not cane syrup. Not homemade sugar water. Agave. Syrup. Costco probably has it by the gallon. Trader Joe's has it. Buy at least a quart. You will use it, seeing how you carry that crazy machine with you. Use a teaspoon or so for your first drink. Then adjust the amount based on the sweetness of your limes/lemons.

Shake with ice. Drink, on the rocks. Adjust the tequila concentration. Now you have your recipe. And unplug that machine.

    :)

Honestly, I like a good frozen margarita. I just don't go to all that trouble at home. And I get fewer brain freezes when I drink margs on the rocks.

This recipe will improve your life, I promise. At a minimum, you'll have far less garbage to tote around. Those bottles are heavy. And the quality of this is awesome. And in many campgrounds you can simply throw the citrus rinds onto the bushes.

    just kidding

Hmmm... Interesting... will give it a try, thanks Alcat... but I have to add, just sitting there with a beer, it's just fun to watch the machines, the DAN is the fun one, but too much unless a large group..

Ok if we are going to start throwing margarita recipes around this is my favorite. My favorite tequila is Jimador. I copied this directly from Alton Brown from the "good eats" show on the food network site. I've made variations of it, like less lime more orange, but in any case it's amazingly good. It's a bit of work muddling the fruit but that's where the amazing comes from. I have to admit I've never bothered to do this while camping, I usually stick with beer or something easy like rum and coke while camping.

    Ingredients

2 ounces 100 percent agave silver/blanco tequila, divided
    1 tablespoon kosher salt
    4 limes, divided
1/2 small Hamlin or Valencia orange
    2 tablespoons light agave nectar
3/4 cup ice cubes, about 3 to 4

    Directions

Pour 1/2-ounce of the tequila into a small saucer. Spread the kosher salt in a separate small saucer. Dip the rim of a martini or other wide rimmed glass into the tequila. Lift out of the tequila and hold upside down for 10 seconds to allow for slight evaporation. Next, dip the glass into the salt to coat the rim. Set aside.

Halve 2 of the limes, cut a thin slice for garnish from 1, and set aside. Juice the halved limes into the bottom of a Boston-style cocktail shaker. Cut the remaining 2 limes and the orange into quarters and add them to the juice in the shaker. Add the agave nectar to and muddle for 2 minutes until the juices are release. Strain the juice mixture through a cocktail strainer into the top of the shaker and discard the solids.

Return the juice to the bottom of the shaker, add the remaining 1 1/2 ounces of tequila and any remaining on the saucer. Add the ice to the shaker, cover and shake for 30 seconds. Strain the mixture through a cocktail strainer into the prepared glass, garnish with reserved lime slice, and serve immediately.

Nice recipe!! The muddling isn't really all that much work, and it's a real good way to go if you are making more than two drinks. Using the agave nectar and real fruit makes a huge difference.

But I'll still drink a marg made with Cuervo and cheap mix. Don't get me wrong. I may be picky but I will NOT go thirsty!!

George, I would think ADDing the Beer and then mixing would be a little like a 'Mentos & Coke' happening...
    [IMG][/URL]

Fizzing all over the place.. or do you mix the above and THEN ADD the Beer, like a club soda...

No you don't gently pour the beer in, and part of what makes the mentos/ coke thing work is the restriction of the neck on the bottle. The blender is actually wider at the top so the geyser affect isn't an issue.
