We went to Necedah for our 9 year checkup and some maintainance work. We went up the east side of the Mississippi and came home on the west side. In the process, we got 5 new states on our trip, Iowa was one of them.

This is is charming, quiet, wooded park, cost us $24. This kind of park is what I consider 'camping', vs. paved sites, those campgrounds that are just too manicured. There's not a lot of vegetation between the sites but it still felt pretty private.

Though we didn't try the showers as we were only there overnight, they seemed dated. The toilets and sink were clean. They have NOAA radio playing in the bathrooms.

They had a huge stockpile of firewood in a covered area near the bathrooms asking for donations.

We had a chance to hike some trails to the caves and we were impressed. Beautiful! But bring hiking shoes with a good sole to grip, some of the paths were wet; also, bring a flashlight/headlamp if you really want to get deep into the cave system.

    We would definitely come back.
