Located in South Thomaston in Mid-Maine just south of Rockland. We really liked this older style campground. It is “rustic” with 40 sites. No site is more than 150 yards to the beach. We had 3 days of wonderful kayaking just about 20 yards from our waterfront grassy campsite with picnic table and fire pit. The bathrooms are old with $ 50 cent showers. They limit the size of RVs and the longest stay is 2 weeks in July and August. Most of the sites have 30 amp electric and water hookups. They don’t allow generators, electric heat or AC. Frankly you don’t need it as there is almost always a nice cool sea breeze. There are no fancy amenities in this 50 + year old campground. But at $36 per night for a waterfront site with elec and water it’s hard to beat. If you like old cars planes and motorcycles, pre WW ll, the Owls Head Transportation museum is just a few miles up the road. The best lobster roll in Maine is just a few miles south at McLoons in S. Thomaston. Rockland is the nearest big town at 8 miles up the road. I really like this part of the Maine coast. It has just as nice scenery as Acadia without the crowds and the high prices. If your into gardening the Maine Coastal Botanical Garden in Boothbay to the south is not to be missed.
