Hey Southeasterner's- have any of you ever camped at Lake Norman SP in North Carolina? Or does anyone know anything about this campground?
We are looking into doing an "Introduction to Camping" trip with our nephew, his wife, and their three young sons. We've been looking for a campground that is midway between Atlanta, and Norfolk, VA, hopefully with shade, trails, and a lake. Any suggestions?

We were at Lake Norman State Park two years ago in early spring--late march. There weren't any leaves on the trees yet, but there would be plenty of shade there. There is also a nice trail that follows the shoreline. The site we had was private even without leaves on the trees. I believe that famous Nascar racers have homes on Lake Norman.
It's not alot of info, but it's all I can remember.

    Hi Jim & Jamie,
This might be a bit late for your trip, but...
Camped at Lake Norman State Park a couple weekends ago. It's a great campground. If you can get sites 12 or 9 - they are the best; and you can easily hike down to lake and trails at back of those sites. The bathhouse is rundown but adequate. Grills are old. Campsites are very clean and large, some more private than others. Family campground, pretty quiet, no alcohol. Great public beach. I recommend it highly; just watch for deer on your way in.
