International Redwood Gathering 4 (IRG4)
July 26-29, 2012
Carlotta, CA

Registration is now open & it fills up FAST!

Update: As of January 14, IRG4 is full & registration is CLOSED.

The cost is very reasonable: $50.00

Held every 2 years, the IRG is one of the largest teardrop gatherings in the U.S. Here is your chance to literally camp at the base of giant redwoods. The grove is reserved entirely for IRG attendees.

Dean & Joanie, your IRG hosts, are two of the nicest people & will make you feel at home. There are plenty of activities to participate in throughout the gathering, as well as breathtaking sights to see in the area.

It is well worth the travel time to attend. I would suggest you arrive as early as possible, as the spots in amongst the trees fill up fast. Overflow is in a field that adjoins/is part of the grove.

Ah, bummer! I was hoping to make this one, but it isn't going to work with our schedule. I can't believe it is only January and our summer is practically filled up! Er, or maybe I should say, July/August/September are filled, as summer hasn't really been here the last 2 years. Unless you count that one week of 80-degree days, and the 2 90-degree days we had last summer. Re-thinking my crops this year!

This gathering looks amazing though. Maybe in 2014!

Thanks for the notice, Betsey. We sent off our registration a couple of days ago. We will be up in the San Juan Islands in Washington and will make the trip down from there. Looks like a super gathering.

It is a lot of fun. Wish we could go again this year but we've got other plans in the works. Maybe in 2014.

If you are able to get there on Wednesday (and they have it open), I would recommend doing so. We arrived Wednesday, a day before the official start, around 2:00p & all the spots amongst the trees were already filled. I usually don't mind finding a place where ever we can fit, but I told Craig, "I didn't travel over 2,500 miles to the redwoods to camp in the field...I want trees!" :D Fortunately, some of our Minnesota & Wisconsin friends had arrived earlier in the week & saved us a spot amongst the gentle giants. I was a happy camper! :)

Thanks for the tip. I was planning on arriving on Wednesday and now I will get there as early as I can. If I do have to camp in the field that will be alright too. They have not posted any information yet but they did indicate that there was a change to the registration. It is open to the first 100 trailers or 250 people whichever comes first. I don't know if this in increase or decrease from last year.

If I remember, before it was 100 trailers or 200 people.

Hope I didn't sound too pushy on wanting to camp amongst the trees...being a tree person, I've always wanted to visit & camp in the redwoods. I'm a fairly low maintenance person & am pretty flexible...it's a rare occasion when I'm not...but when that rare occasion happens, watch out! :D

I didn't think it was pushy. I can understand the sentiment. I am glad your friends saved a site for you under the glorious Redwoods. I have only been there once before and it is my most ardent wish that I can camp beneath them in July. I am just reconciling myself to the fact that I will have to compete with 250 like minded individuals and may end up in the field. :)

Just checked...approximately 60 are registering for IRG4...Dean has received 41 of those, as of today. It's only been 4 days since registration opened. This gathering may fill up much faster this time.

If you are thinking of going, don't wait too long before sending in your registration.

I know we'd love to go, but I have to be back at school at that time. The new teachers report shortly thereafter, and then the kids come back! 2014 I'll be retired and we'll be to go!

Yes ma'am, the check is in the mail (always wanted to say that). Count us in! Jim and I are delighted to be meeting some of the crowd at last.

See you there.

Sue and Jim

I sent our application in on Saturday; however, we have not yet appeared on the roster. Our other problem is that we don't have our 560U yet, just a minor technicality.

It is scheduled to be finished in April; however, it might take longer because of the gold plating that is being added. We figure that is the only way to preserve the finish and avoid having to wax or Walbernize. We will be picking it up at the factory.

Gold plating???!! Now why didn't we think of that? Jim says we'll just have to settle for a fine aluminum patina. He says, "Looks just like sterling silver."

Oh, brother.....

Stephen and Shirley, you two are a riot! Can't wait to meet you all.

Sue and Jim

Yeah, Jim was thinking about getting that hot tub/sauna option. But, he says the extra weight would seriously diminish the MPG on the TV (BFD) and all that water would slosh everywhere going up and down those mountain passes...

So we settled for the solid platinum French shower stall with eight diamond studded adjustable pulsating massage shower heads and the jewel encrusted carved rock crystal faucets (rubies for HOT, sapphires for COLD). As Jim says, "After all that driving, one must have a proper place to unwind. Who says you can't take a few luxuries on the road?"

I'm just wondering what he did with the champagne....(Maybe he hid the Moet in the Sub Zero?)

Camp On,

Sue and Jim

Sue,

I just looked in the stockroom & found that your set of Ginsu knives and Veg-O-Matic, both free with the purchase of the solid platinum French Shower, was not shipped with your teardrop. :o

Not sure how you will be able to travel without the ability to slice, dice & make mounds of Julienne fries or how you will survive without the knives to cut down trees for firewood, cut through the hitch lock when you lose the key & then cut a tomato into paper thin slices.

Even with the French shower, the overall quality of your camping experience has taken a serious dive. :(

But wait! For only $19.95, I will ship BOTH the Ginsu knives and the Veg-O-Matic to you!!!!

All is well! :)

"Ding"!! I think we've found the champion!

No way I'm going to try and top that!!!

Wait a minute.....wasn't that supposed to come with Craig and Cary Chia Pets?

Sue and Jim

Oh Betsey, we're laughing so hard our tummies hurt....

PS: Jim says it's time to circle the teardrops - at the funny farm.
