IL - Fox Ridge State Park near Charleston, IL

We spent the weekend in Fox Ridge SP , our 1st visit, and would recommend it. 40+ sites, all seemed to be nicely wooded and plenty large. Bathroom/shower facilities were in great shape. The park is in the middle of Illinois farm country, but the topography is nothing like you might think (flat) - the Embarras River runs through the park, and the terrain is quite hilly. Great hiking trails, opportunities for canoeing/kayaking, and a bit of Pres. Lincoln history in the area.

Ken, This is a beautiful park. Im surprised. I give Illinois low marks for good parks but this looks great. I'll be passing south through Illinois this winter and will look for this.

Your pictures are beautiful. What kind of camera do you use?

Thanks so much,

I agree about the low marks for Illinois' parks. I attribute part of that to the fact that the state spends way more than it takes in, and after so many years it catches up in a lot of ways. A lot of the parks are either closed or have dramatically reduced services - like keeping bathrooms/showers operational. It's a real shame.
That said, some of the parks that get used a lot are managing to be maintained/improved - I guess the limited resources go where they get the most use, which is good.
We're trying to get out to some of the parks in the state that we have not visited in the past. Hopefully we'll be able to continue to catch the fall colors for a few more weeks, doing closer-in parks on weekend trips.
I used a Nikon DSLR for those pics.
These were with the cell phone:

Loved the pictures! Illinois is a glaring white spot on our travel map, ironic since I grew up there. Maybe next year's trip . . .

Thanks Kathy. We'll try to scout out a few more spots for you between now and then...
