Or, if you HAVE to buy that 1947 tear and rebuild it. And then sell it 'cause it isn't as comfortable as your other tear and can only be used when the temperature is just right. Hello Mark from the Tennessee Tear Jerkers. (Unfortunately, he won't get to see this post.)

Close enough, Jim and Jamie. Both sets of our parents live within a half mile - my parents are big campers (with no camper) and Lena's parents not so much, but are willing to try it.

Also, we've got lots of friends that would be interested in camping but don't have the gear. So, we've got the second tear to lend out to my parents, her parents, and then other family and friends... in that order. After all, camping with friends is way more fun.

While nobody is using it, we may put it out for rent. The previous owners said they rented it out for $150 a weekend or $300 a week. Either way, it was too good of a deal to pass up.

The previous owners were moving across country, had sold their tow vehicle, and were waiting for us to get there so they could drive off. They had no room to take their camping gear with them, so it all came with the tear!

 

Evan, Thats awesome! Bernice & I were just talking about buying or building a second tear drop just yesterday and for the exact reasons you mentioned except our kids are all grown up with spouses so they could use it with us. Bernice is the one who brought it up yesterday. I'm not sure if we will ever get a second tear, but it would be fun. Will you post pictures of the inside and kitchen area of the new one? Is it a home built tear?

Yes, it's a homebuilt that we found on Craigslist. I'll post more pictures when we get home later today.

Here are some more pictures of the tear...


It's very small, with a unique 'bump-out' for the galley. The bump isn't extra space though, it's probably the point that most tears would taper down to. The wood panels ends right right with ones toes.



Kind of neat wheels... if you're into that kind of thing...


Rather than an isolator, it has two 7 pin connections - one with charging, one without.
I guess you pick which one you want to use for a given trip.


The 120v system has a hardwired cord rather than an outlet for an extension cord.


The doors are very large and let in lots of light. Sliding screen section at bottom. (2 doors)


We're gonna need a new mattress, but otherwise the interior is very clean.
The $70 RV mat also came with it.
The shelf would be very handy for junk or a laptop to watch a movie, but it also lifts out to make you feel like you have more room.


Very clean vinyl ceiling, with a small exhaust fan. I wonder how easily this could be replaced with a Fantastic?

OK, the galley. Yes, it does open.


The galley looks like it was built around the cooler. The lid comes off of the cooler, and it slides out under the pop-up table. All the drawers came full of whatever was in them. The slide out plastic drawers also were probably part of the original build.


Simple enough kitchen, but very functional. There is a coleman stove on the shelf under the cooler.

We are very happy to have this for my parents. All we needed for them was a bed on wheels, since they will be camping with us and the 'ultimate setup'.
However, with the basic kitchen this tear could also stand on it's own. So, we'll lend it out to any friends who want to try teardropping, and maybe rent it out as well.
