Hitch mount on GMC Yukon

Interested if anyone is towing with a Yukon/Tahoe. I have an 8" drop receiver coupling which puts the top of the ball right at 19" with a couple of hundred lbs. on the back bumper. Wondering if I need to go longer on the drop for a 560 SUV since the recommended range is 15-19". I spend a fair amount of time on NFS roads, which sometimes are not in the best of shape, and don't want to drag the tail end of the trailer going over and down some of the hills and dales that those roads typically include.
 
Gary, the only thing I ever drag is the front end - but that was with a much smaller tow vehicle. I don't think you will have a problem because the wheels are so close to the back already, however, perhaps Cary can weigh in with some actual facts.
 
CI does not like to talk ground clearance for some reason. The water tanks on my ’08 are the lowest point on the tear with the SUV option. With the SUV option most of the height increase comes from larger tires. If my tear rides level there is 13” of ground clearance and if it rides with the ball at 19” there is about 11” of ground clearance - a 560 would have about 11 1/4” +/-. My loaded Tacoma got to 18 1/2” and I had no problem as the tear ground clearance was more than the Tacoma which was 9”. The Yukon came with 9” so unless you did something different the 560 should go where the Yukon goes.

The thing to watch out for is tongue weight. As the front goes up the tongue weight goes down. One needs to adjust to get the 10% + of the gross weight or you will get a lot of banging and clunking from the play at the hitch if it is too light. Other bad things will happen too. With the correct tongue weight I don’t find any need for a ‘Quiet Ride” hitch is there is no clunking unless I hit a serious bump. NFS roads are a different story as there is still vertical play in the hitch even if the the receiver is locked.

The cleanest way with a receiver hitch is to get the trailer to ride level and adjust your tongue weight from there.
