Hi we're T and Joy, and we bought Anna&Steve's #269 HAPENEST last month. Steve told us to rename it, so we had a contest with friends and family--I told them it had to be as witty as "Suite Retreat" or "The Dew Drop Inn".

We got some great suggestions: "Crebs Cruiser", "Camp Crebs", "Helter-Skelter-Shelter", "Shroom Room", "Shroomer Boomers", but we settled on a mineralogical name The VUG which means a cavity within a rock. We call her Vuggie. Not real witty, but it rolls off the tongue. Besides it can be adjectivized "Vugly", adverbilized "Vuggily", and as a verb "Vug-Out" to leave camp quickly!

In mid-Feb we drove about 1800 miles to Staten Island to pick her up. Before we met Steve and Anna, we had to take the Staten Island Ferry to Manhatten to spend a few days with Joy's son and sister. From the ferry we got nice shots of the Statue of Liberty.

Joy's son treated us at Katz Deli, where the "I'll have what she's having.." scene from 1989's movie When Harry met Sally was shot. The half-dill real-fermented pickles were excellent, but the sauerkraut was just so-so.

Joy's sister got us tickets to the Broadway show Pippen, which won a bunch of Tony awards last year. The +60 year old sisters apparently really enjoyed the bare chested acrobats--I told them to put their tongues back in their mouths.

Then we went to the 3-story Glass Apple Store on 5th Avenue. Joy told me to put MY TONGUE back in my mouth, and wouldn't let me buy too much.

Across the street, was the Central Park Carriage ride. I had promised Joy years ago if we ever made NY we would do. So here we are with Lucky the horse.

Welcome to our Camp-Inn world. Enjoy! My daughter, in Co Springs and I, in Steamboat, share our 560. Maybe we will see you on the road when the snow melts.

...apparently UBBCode doesn't like Greek Letters in the subject line...(Hello/Γεια σας/Yasas for all those numbers)

...the next day we spent the day with Anna&Steve. Their #269 (HAPENEST) was even prettier than the pictures, they had pampered her. They also gave us pointers on ownership and showed us all the upgrades they did and had done. They were gracious and beautiful people.

Next we drove to Necedah to get a new bumper (Joy tends to back into things) and an Alcan cover (for off pavement shrooming/camping). Marty and Cary gave us a great tour of their facilities, while Craig fixed and leak-tested a small galley leak which Steve had noted. Here's a shot of Vuggie with her new "piece of art" bumper.

Had to buy a bunch of curds and limburger cheese while in Wisconsin. Limburger on onions between rye is awesome to us. I make feta from unpasteurized milk (yeah, I own a cow share) but will be making limburger after this trip.

Our first night camping in Vuggie was at the West Omaha KOA, -1°F but we were toasty inside. Condensation was an annoyance, as too cold to ventilate with much outside air. Loved the 12 volt mattress pad.

...after driving over 4000 miles in 7 driving days we got home to Lakewood.

Trip out we averaged about 29 mpg from our 2.5-liter gasoline-engine VW Rabbit. Towing Vuggie we averaged about 23 mpg (i.e., all up-hill to our home elevation of 5890 feet above sea level--yup, we look down on Denver!)

Vuggie and the Rabbit fit nicely in the garage, and here a shot of Joy enjoying a nice Pinot with apples and cheese in the garage to celebrate such a nice trip.

BTW, roads were clear of snow all the way out on I-70, AND all the way back mostly on I-80. Cold temps in Wisconsin -7° and Minnesota -10°, but we enjoy the cold and snow. Vuggie towed like a dream, even thru show pretty heavy winds in Iowa and Nebraska.

Already we're planning a trip to Goose Bay Labrador when we retire, only 2950 miles or 52 hours driving away. I think we're gonna love Vuggie.

    Hugs, Joy and Crebs

Here's a shot of all of us on Staten Island left-to-right (T, Joy, Anna, & Steve) taken by A&S's daughter-in-law.

Wow, did I enjoy this! Great write up and it looks like you had a fantastic journey! While I may not share your love of Limburger on onions, I can certainly relate to the joy your Camp-Inn brings you. Here's to you both enjoying many, many years of fun in Vuggie!

    Thanx Barb, and yeah.

With all the Coloradans with Camp Inns, maybe we should organized a Rocky Mountain Chapter for informal "wing dings"!

During August-Sept we'll supply the gourmet Porcini's, Matsutakes, and Chants from under our 8000-foot (in elevation) Colorado pines!

    Hugs, T & Joy

Ah, Dan & Van, young Limburger is a treat when first cut, but when it ages a few months WOW, it tastes even better and smells like Joy's feet. Apparently an aphrodisiac for Geezer Greek men like me.

Thanx for the sweet comments and Best Regards, T

    Enjoyed the traveling along side...(Pics)...
Since you're somewhat centrally located, Utah etc... you'll have quite a lot of places to put on the list...

    Fun eh??

Thanks T for the compliment to our trailers name,( Susan and I were delighted that the Dew Drop Inn wasn't taken) Yuggie is a wonderful endearing name, sounds to me like your going to enjoy her very much. My, if your going to eat that good at the 1st annual Rocky Mountain Camp-Inn gathering maybe you'll allow a PNWer to attend.(we eat good at the PNW roundup too and drink good too, have you seen pictures of Uncle Frank's fancy drink machines and his young blender crew) Great maiden tour story and pictures, looking forward to reading more about your adventures with Yuggie.

I was thinking, man, these guys are some legit spammers! They even got a teardrop! Sweet!

Congrats on your maiden voyage and you do sound like "our" kind of people being excited about food (from what I read, the folks in the PNW have a thing for food, but it is just what I know, and our vices will get you too - wine, beer, coffee). We eat pretty good out here, but I am going to have to hold the onions...allergic to the whole family. I love stinky cheese though! Being married to a Brit, we tend to stick more to the Stiltons and Blues, but I haven't met a cheese I didn't like....at least in a long time! I was conditioned while living with a cheese maker in Switzerland as an exchange student. I miss the cheese...I don't miss the 60lbs I gained!

Come join us sometime! We are a lot closer than Labrador! We have some shrooming out here too! Really lovely chantrals especially!

Congrats T and J very nice trailer, I've been admiring those mushrooms in your picture for some time now. I'll bet you can make Limburger taste good with some of those. In central Indiana morrel mushroom rule.

Love the name. And goose bay Labrador sounds wonderful with a camp-in. We toured New Foundland 20 or so years ago with a little tent very interesting land and people.

Great pics and story, although wouldn't expect any less from folks who took over Steve and Anna's teardrop! Know they took really good care of it and we're sure it's permeated with their kindness and humor. You'll have a really good time.

Thank you Marius. Loved Staten Island (except all the potholes) especially the Sri Lankan restaurants on the north shore near the ferry. SL food is similar to south Indian cuisine, with extra FIRE!

Staten Island was a perfect NY base-location for us: FREE ferry to Manhatten; inexpensive motel rooms, great SL food, and close to Anna&Steve's place.

    All the Best, T

Yup, Susan_Alan, we're having "grundles" (Utah vernacular for lots of fun!)
