  1. This is a unique state park and the way to get to is to drive to middle of nowhere and then go about 5 miles more. Most of the last several miles will be down a dirt road in the Sandhills region of South Carolina. Once you are at H. Cooper Black, it is a beautiful piece of property. The place is a place that is going to appeal to people who own horses, which most of us don't carry along with our teardrops/raindrops. It has huge equestrian facilities including corrals, a couple of barns and a show ring. They also do Field Trials with hunting dogs and there is a big kennel area as well. There are riding trails and fields around the rolling hills of property for the competitions. Most of this goes on in the spring and fall as the summer is hot as hades in this part of the state in the summer months.

You don't have to havehorses or hunting dogs to camp here though. There are 27 sites with electricity and water. They are split into two areas and both will have you camping up under pine trees in the shade. The loop that is closer to the barn will be a shorter walk to the bathhouse. The other loop uses a bath house that double as the bathroom for the show ring. The bathhouses appeared to be recently built. If you do camp in here, this is the kind of place you are going just to hang out at your site instead of using at a base to see an area. You would also need to make sure you had everything before going in, as you are pretty far from a town here.

It looks like the calendar shows no events until Sept 14 and after that is busy especially on the weekends. They have a 50% discount for the summer with the code HOTSUMMER50. When we drove down to visit it, there were a handful of campers there on a weekday. Not a place for everyone to camp, but it was a unique place.
