George's 1st 5 nights

Hilditch

Novice
George, I'm sure many of us would like to hear more about your 1st 5 nights. They already sound better than ours.

Did you just have one 5 day grin? What did you learn?

Hilditch

Well, I learned that the people at Camp Inn are terrific. They don't shy from tough questions, and they accept suggestions as well as criticism, though there wasn't too much of the later.
Those of you that all ready have a CI know this.

I rented the 560 Ultra, Raindrop, street set up. Marty made sure that I knew everything I needed to know (my wife was taught as well) to be able to "borrow" their rental unit and beable to return it in good condition.
I was asked several times by the "crew" at the camp outt what I had decided on. 550 or 560. Right now I am still not sure. I like them both. I prefer the exterior lines of the 550, I like the room in the 560. Again nothing new to the recent CI visitors or owners. I kind of envy the people that had basically only one style to choose from.
What I learned..... Camp Inn is definately my choice of manufactured Tear drop style trailer. The mattress was very adequate, I won't need my air mattress, or a foam addition.
I don't know if anyone rises up in their TD as I did, but if I do as I did last week, I will be doing a lot of "sit ups" LOL
Even though we had the unit for 6 nites, we really didn't pack the camper as if it were ours, so we had some awkward moments.
and of course not everything was in a "normal" spot. I tried to envision where and how I would pack the items that I would take, and my mind went blank, (no comments please). My biggest problem is I pack my truck to accomodate my castironitis, My poor truck was sitting a little low in the back. If I take my TT camper my iron will go in the camper. It won't go in a TD. I packed 10 dutch ovens. If I am doing a demonstration or some of the DOGs, I pack my iron to be prepared.
When I do get my CI (following rule), I am quite sure my ci that I travel with will be reduced considerably.

I did learn that it is different to set up such a small unit with 2 doors. The options and arrangements on how it goes on the site create an interesting decision. I our case do we back it in "normal" so that the front windows face the lake? Do you pull it in and have a front and back door, but then the lake view is at one side! wind direction now comes into play, because you can position the galley to avoid the direct prevailing wind. We circled the CG 3 times before deciding section to set up in. Then we had to pick a site. Taking into consideration all the above. I think we guessed right, because we had the best of it all. View, wind, sun, plus a high spot (this comes from tent experience). The moon over the lake photo in my album was from my front door. We also woke up to 4 Bald Eagles in a tree about 50 feet from camper. What a site.

The only negative experience I had was setting up the side tent and handling the poles, they were both rusty and greasy. I did talk to Cary and Craig about this, and suggested they try poles like Coleman uses on their awnings. They are aluminum, and ribbed for strength. No corrosion so grease not needed.

Accessories that were provided;
Prov. Will get?
Door screens yes
Tables yes
Sun roof no
Fantastic yes
sprayer yes
A/C yes
side tent (1) yes
Ez up yes

I would add;

If there are any questions that I have not answered, please ask away!

Thanks. It appears you didn't have a canopy from the pics I saw. How did you find the first night or two with the rain and wind? Did it affect your cooking ability or didn't you use the stove?

Bye the way George, I'm glad you were able to pick a good site. I'm still fighting with this one. A. Don't back up to a large body of water if you want to cook in the galley. B. The best view is in the back where the canopy is over the galley area as that is where you spend most of your time. One doesn't get to spend too much time looking out the windows of a CI normally.

Often, your sideways front door/back door may be the best way to go if one can pull it off - with the wind screens for the galley.

I have been fortunate to rent both the 550 and 560. Both units have pros and cons.

550: loved laying in bed viewing the stars and moon night light from the front eyebrow windows during CICO. Watched a movie Sunday night, had to tilt the TV with a DVD case while I was in bed. Because of the low ceiling height no able to sit up as in the 560. Found access to the headboard storage great. Nice secure place for water, glasses, flashlight etc.

560: I like the lines, being able to sit on the cough watching a movie. Sitting on the couch don't have to prop the TV for viewing. Will have the same issue lying in bed though the screen will have to be change the TV angel. The couch back blocks easy access to the front storage area. I placed the couch seat flat and used as a bedside stand. Without the sunroof won't be able to watch the stars. (I won't get the sunroof.

Deciding which unit is hard, cost and benefit issue.

Yes we used my 1st Up with side windshields. I cooked something every day, as I was under shelter. The road runs parallel with the camper the blue beyond in the picture is the lake

Here is another shot of set up from lake side

I used the camper stove for coffee only. I have one of those drip coffee makers that sit on a camp stove.

I wouldn't use the Camp Inn stove anyway, except for boiling stuff and coffee.

As I said my only issues came with the side tent. I didn't set it up correctly, so it could and did collect rain and I ended up with 2" deep puddle inside the tent. And the rusty and greasey poles.
