Galley Windscreens Galley Windscreens

we're heading up to Newfoundland in August and I expect it's likely to be a bit windy.

Do the galley windscreens make a big difference in the operation of the stove?

I'm having a hard time imagining that they'll do much in more than light winds but that's why I'm asking. I sure don't mind adding them if they'll really help.

I have been happy to have the galley wind screens and they worked perfectly when the wind is blowing from the right direction. If the wind is from the wrong direction they don't help much. I put up the doors to the bins and was able to protect the stove enough to get the cooking done but not pleasantly.

Yes, IMHO they do make a difference, but ????

In strong winds coming from the "Wrong direction" you can also raise the bin hatches to block... I've used that several times and was able to continue with cooking, albeit for a short time...

It doesn't take much to "Redirect" the winds around the stove burners..

They do add privacy. The last place I stayed was very close quarters so the little bit of privacy provided was welcome. If you wanted to save the money you could make your own but I just figured, whats a few more dollars?

... also, heheh, when you do get them???
Make sure you line up the buttons on the wood so you'll be able to snap them on.
Measure 2x, cut/drill/screw once.

I know of what I speak, sigh.. I'll get it right next time.
I just hate drilling into the wood

But? they, screens, do work well, and as Jenn state, "..It's just dang windy." putting it nicely... so Slim Fast in the Cooler help as backup Rations..

Fun..

thanks for the feedback, y'all.

One more question - do you generally just leave them installed or remove them each time you use them? Seems like they could be a hassle to get tucked in when closing the ever-heavier hatch.

and I don't know about slimfast as my backup rations. I'm thinking beer and sardines, maybe throw in some peanut butter ...

Beer, can't disagree with that...

Screens, I take them off when they are not needed. They roll up in the little bag and store easily... I don't like them blocking the side view.. it's a matter of preference, but to close the hatch, you just pull them inside as you semi-close it..

Now, back to the Back stores.. heheh without the sardines thank-you very much.. .LOL

Just had an experience with this... at Dinosaur National Monument... turned the TD around and faced the tongue into the wind (and it was windy - 20+) - then set things up including the wind screens and we were able to make a nice marinara sauce with a simmer......

So = yes they help... but not if the wind is from the rear...
