UT National Park Fruita (capitol Reef Np)

Discussion in 'West' started by Warren Mary Ellen, Jul 5, 2016.

  1. A great campground and now one of my favorites no matter the location. There are 3 Loops, A & B have more shade. We stayed in site 33 which was one of the shadiest and it also backs up to an apple orchard where mule deer will visit early and late in the day. Sites are paved and our site was wide enough to park the car next to the 560 Ultra. The sites are dry and without electricity. Water is available near the bathroom which has a dishwashing sink on the outside. Fruita is an oasis where you will find a variety of fruit orchards. Next to the campground is Gifford House where you can buy homemade pies and ice cream. It was very quiet at night.

The park itself is a great one and overlooked by many people. A lot of great hiking including the Fremont River Trail that begins in the campground. There is another trail that begins across from the road from the campground. The Visitor Center is a mile away, check here to see if any fruit is ripe for picking. We got to pick apricots. The Scenic Drive past the campground is a must. The petroglyphs along Hwy 24 and in Capitol Gorge were neat to see.

Cohab Canyon is the trail across the road, a very nice hike. As is the Grand Wash Trail. Early morning or late afternoon is best for both as it got HOT when we were there last August.
