Unresolved Forum Status

Well that was disappointing. "We" collectively are still feeling the impact of the outage that happened a couple week ago when the former provider did an upgrade which broke our forum.

First things first, we need to find our forever home. And I'm not just talking about a cozy little spot for my pillow – I mean a reliable hosting provider that can give our forum the stability it needs. It is possible that this temporary home could be completed -- you know, putting on shingles and not looking like a shack down by the river.

We know where we are moving too, the same provider that hosts the Campinn pages today. Just a few issues need to be resolved there.

This morning, I started the migration process. And at first, I was feeling like a total rockstar – all that data moved over without a hitch! The main page popped up, until I clicked on the first message...error, error, error! Talk about a mood killer.

After spending a solid 5-6 hours trying to figure out what went wrong, and trying to figure out why when I tested this before it worked...I decided to pull back and regroup.

Now, before you start thinking I'm some kind of genius who knew exactly what they were doing (ha!), let me tell you – I've been here before. Last time I tried this, it worked like a charm! So, why did it fail this time? Honestly, I have no idea. But I'll try again in a non-impacting way.

Once I move the data, there will still be the problems we have today, but we'll be positioned well to fix them rather than to just put a bandaid over a bandaid. There is also still other issues that may show up, for example getting the "certificate" to work. These are a notoriously fiddly thing. But if I can get that working then I'll flip the switch to cut over. Otherwise I'll need to re-copy the data. But that should be easy. Famous last words.

I apologize for the length of this process, as well as my ramblings. Please know that I am aware of the email problem, as well as the login issues discussed.

You may need to do something!

If things are really strange, you're getting an error logging in or things just are sort-of-working --- clear your browser history. Cookies and caches can get a little confused when sites move around. Google can help you with how to do that...it's easy. CampInn has a facebook presence I would suggest following them --- if there are any major updates, I'm sure they will put something there.

Also watch the notification space on the main page of the forum --- I'll update it with any major notes.

Same here ;) - busier than a one-toothed man at a corn-eating contest.

It always slows down in the winter...but it does seem quiet. Probably my fault :D

Not a lot of activity lately. I wonder if im the only one here.
Probably depends how many people are still affected by their email going straight to spam. If I don't intentionally got to the site looking for activity I'm not aware of any.

I check the site several time a day. Usually inn the morning and then in the evening.

I check most days, but don't spend much time -- I suspect these few weeks within the holidays is a particularly busy time for many people and they are not making this Forum their priority, but that's their choice.

I've got so many things on my plate right now that I can't find time to even take a shower in the morning. Honestly.

I've been working with a web designer, and that has not been going particularly well. I'm figuring out that "fake it til you make it" in the 'gig' job space is hit or miss, and there are a lot of people out there that are trying to survive without experience or qualification --- basically hobbiest and AI assisted 'experts'

Of course, I hear the word 'expert', and I think of a good friend who worked as a IT recruiter in the late 1990's. He always said, "Remember high school algebra? 'X' is always the unknown. And a spurt is just a drip under pressure." --- That rally does seem to sum it up!

Hopefully I can get my head back above water -- soon.
