Floor Insulation

Bechtle

Novice
Each January I travel to the Mojave Desert and camp for 2 to 3 weeks. Overnight tempretures in the Mojave Desert are often in the mid-twenties; but we've camped when over night tempretures were 14 degrees. ...cold enough to freeze the fresh and gray water tanks.

Last year I cut and placed some foil insulation under the mattress directly on the sub-floor. The results have been very good. The cabin interior is very comfortable and has a nice warmth that wasn't present before.

The insulation I used was a product described as "foil double bubble foil" and is available at local hardware stores and Amazon.

Heyya Carl,
Excellant idea...
I've used that stuff for covering an 5-gal water jug for cold diving. Filled it with Hot bath water and after 2-3 hrs it was still TOO HOT to use for showers.. Believe I still have some in the garage.. will put it in tomorrow...

Good call, thanks... never thought of it...
they do, of course have small rolls at the hardware stores..

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.

I've not seen any evidence (that I can remember) of condensation when camping. That may well be because I set the furnace thermostat to 55 degrees. I should check specifically for condensation. Sounds like a good reason for a run to the Trinity Alps or the Casades.

When the teardrop is parked at home, I place a marine heater/de-humidifier in the cabin. The de-humidifier was purchased from West Marine. The unit runs on 120vac and turns on when cabin temperture drops below 38 degrees. West Marine carries lots of de-humidifier choices; but there boating supply stores.

I'll look for some mold-resistant carpeting.

ciao
Carl
