First real trip

I'm writing this from the cozy confines of our Campinn. We're staying in the campground on Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia. This is night two and it's a breezy 50 or so degrees. The conditions inside are delightful. Carole is asleep and Ace is definitely drowsy. You can just hear the breeze come and go through the Spanish Moss encumbered live oaks.
We have a down featherbed over the standard mattress and some fabulous lightweight down hammocking quilts that are just perfect for temp regulating.
Kind of disappointed to be leaving Jekyll after only one full day. There's a tremendous amount of history here along with stunning natural beauty. And whoever is managing the permitting and development process new construction is doing a dandy job. This is truly a great destination if you love undeveloped oceanfront with historical preservation and presentation. And there's a large scale sea turtle rescue op with museum and tours. And great bike trails to EveryWhere. And did I mention golf? (I'm not a golfer so it gets last billing.)
We'll I'm off to dreamland myself. I'll to get some pics up tomorrow with technical observations and questions...(like how the heck do you set up the rain fly over the side tent? Mine looks like 4 year year old having a temper tantrum tried and then just gave up,halfway through.)
We'll be continuing the 95 slog north. Maybe stopping in Wilmington, NC for a day or two, then somewhere in Westbygodvirginia for a night to set up the dash home to Jersey. Plans are made to be dashed however so we are watching this little storm develop that might be working it's way up 95 with us. Might need to accelerate or slow down...
Well, TTFN,
Jeff, Carole and Ace

Sounds like your are having fun.t does feel so cozy when the wind is blowing and a little rain on the roof. I love it. Keep us posted on your adventures.
I'm hoping to spend some time in that part of the country soon.

So glad to hear your first outing is going well. You are making me envious! We spent a fair bit of time in the Wilmington/Jacksonville, NC area from 2009-2012 while our oldest son was in the Marine Corps stationed @ Camp Lejeune. I really miss the trips out there along the coast....but do not at all miss the stress of the son in the Marines. :) However, we fell in love most with the area just northeast of Jacksonville....Emerald Isle (we stayed there most of our visits; quiet, beautiful beachfront areas), Swansboro, Moorehead City, Beaufort....this area is nice and more laid back, quaint little fishing type villages instead of the busier/touristy/party type beaches (excluding Altlantic Beach). Fort Macon State Park (home to a Civil War fort) on Emerald Isle is interesting and we really enjoyed going out to Shackleford Banks once and seeing the wild horses that live on the island.
I look forward to your posts & photos. Wishing you safe travels & a fantastic rest of your first trip!
Oh....and I'm afraid I can't help with the side tent/rainfly question as we have owned ours for over a year and never even taken it out of the bag yet. Now I'm afraid I may be tempted to pitch a 4 year old tantrum first time we do.

Hi! Great report of your travels! We will make Jekyll Island an addition to our bucket list! I work with sea turtle rescue here in Cape Cod at this time of year so seeing sea turtles in the south will be an awesome experience! Can't wait for our teardrop delivery and the "cozy" feeling! Look forward to your photos.

Just wanted to post a quickie here and let everyone know that we got home way ahead of schedule successfully avoiding the storm moving up the east coast. So fun stops were cancelled. (But we did stay at a Cracker Barrel parking lot...)
I'll try to retrieve some photos and get them up later today.

Glad you made it home and missed the storm but sorry you didn't get to do some of the things planned. Jekyll sounds like a great place to camp.
I haven't used my side tent either. I got it so I could set up a commode for my mom and my mom so far hasn't gone with me. I don't really need it when I'm alone. I bought the trailer because I was tired of tents. I haven't set up a tent or shelter since getting the trailer. I'm hoping to take mom in the spring. She actually said something the other day about going to Nevada to visit one of her grandsons. I wonder what is the best time to go to Nevada? Mom is 94 so I probably should have loaded up right then and gone before she changes her mind. lol

Around here getting a parking space at a Cracker Barrel can be quite a feat at times. Glad you missed the storms.
