first night - SS Joyful Tear

The maiden voyage of the SS Joyful Tear was Friday, October 14, at San Francisco RV Resort in Pacifica, California, just a 20-minute drive from our home. http://www.sanfranciscorvresort.com/

Our site had a 30-foot RV on one side and a 42-footer on the other side, and we were all packed in like sardines, but the galley of the tear faced the ocean and we had a very nice first night. This isn’t exactly our idea of a perfect campground, as it wasn’t all that serene, but it was a good one for our shakedown cruise. And you really can’t beat the sunset view and the pelicans occasionally flying close overhead. Hearing the crashing waves while comfortably tucked in is pretty wonderful.

In two weeks, we’ll be in Big Sur.

We spent a night like that, in a canyon of monster RV's, while in New Mexico this spring. Sounds like you were in a nicer campground though, with the view and sounds of the ocean. Congrats on a great start!

I also had a similar experience. I went to a Tearjerker gathering but got a regular RV site with hookups because of my Mom. The other teardrops were in group sites without hookups. We were in between two larger RVs. The one to the right of us had set up a kitchen area right outside his door so basically right across from my door to the camper. He moved the picnic table to be part of this arrangement so they were looking right in the windows when eating. Basically had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. In the morning, I would roll out of my side of the camper either while he was making breakfast or while they were eating. On a quick overnight stop, RV parks aren't bad but not for extended stays (unless there is a beautiful view of the ocean to make up for the crowed conditions.)

Congratulations! So aside from the RV's was it all you had hoped for? I love the Pacific Pelicans! Fun to watch. I look forward to feedback from your Big Sur trip. When at home is your TD parked in a garage? Did you go out and sleep in it at home?

Yes, it was a great night. Couldn't really have asked for any better.

I actually DID think about sleeping in it while at home, but we didn't do it. Now we have it parked in the garage, as my carport leaked a little onto the galley lid, and that stained the aluminum. Walbernize is your friend, but she's a cruel friend that makes you WORK for her love!! :-) I didn't realize how out of shape I was - that buffing is tiring (by hand). Now that my WoodyWax has arrived, I can protect her and work on that less.

I hadn't planned to store her in the garage, but it's actually easier to clean a car than it is to clean the trailer, and the trailer leaves more extra room in the garage, so it makes the garage a lot easier to work in even while the trailer is in it. So that may be her permanent home. We'll see.

the RVs didn't really bother me. Our neighbors were very nice, and 100% supportive of our teardrop. They were very impressed. And they were very friendly, as most campers are.

Living in our 5th wheel in a campground we see everthing come in - except tears. So when we pull MiniMc out of storage and uncover her and sit her beside BigMc (our 5th wheel) people come crawling out of the woodwork to see it. We make quite a statement and generate lots of interest. But we're fortunate to have an oversized campsite - equal to about 3 large ones because we're at the end of a cul de sac turnaround, so we have lots of room to spread out with MiniMc. Having a scheduled Lookey Loo, come and see, Show'nTell tomorrow afternoon actually.
