Finally Got To Camp In 2020!

Discussion in 'Adventures & Excursions' started by Warren Mary Ellen, Jun 11, 2020.

  1. Finally got to do some camping away from the driveway in 2020 and it was an awesome 4 days. We met with fellow Camp Inn owners David and Treva at Hamilton Branch State Park. Mostly, just hung out in the state park. Got in some daily walks around the park which is massive. One day we walked over 6 miles and we still didn't come close to walking all the roads in the park. While it is a big campground (See Review on campgrounds) it does not feel that way due to the layout which is spread out over several peninsulas overlooking Lake Strom Thurmond across to Georgia.

Just good fellowship, good meals together and a nice quiet week for us to start summer vacation. Weekday camping is usually much more quiet and it was for us this week. The loop we were on had 16 sites and and only 3 were being used. This is in a part of SC that is pretty sparsely populated and big chunk of the area is part of a National Forest which normally would have opened up some more hiking possibilities but their facilities were not open yet. It was a good of sitting in the hammock and watching the boats go by.

This is near one of the Peach producing areas in SC, so we grabbed some on the way home today in Edgefield, SC.

What a lovely campsite! Is that a swimming lake?

    What a great site!

  4. You can swim there. Lake Strom Thurmond is a large man made lake on the border of S.C.-GA. Our site was one you could easily get into the water from. There is a swimming beach in the day use area but right now that area is not opened yet.
