Fantastic Fan Fan-tastic Vent Ultra Breeze

Since we don't have AC on our 550-Ultra, and we depend on our Fan-Tastic fan to keep us cool, we have been looking for ways to keep the vent covered. We wanted to protect it from rain, but also be able to open it fully. We weren't satisfied with moving the Alcove shelter back and forth between vent and kitchen. Next, we tried to rig up some type of tarp system between the Alcove and the front of the teardrop, but that involved a lot of rope and poles and had the potential for blowing around too much. We have settled on this vent cover, made by the same company that makes the fan. It was easy to install, according to Jim, and CAN BE QUICKLY REMOVED FOR TRAVEL WITH 4 COTTER PINS. The smoke version we got looks better than the white economy model that Wal-Mart carries. Hopefully, this is the solution we have been looking for!

Looking at adding this to my trailer, since like you we don't have ac. One quick question. What type of sealer did you use when you re installed the screws?

Rob & Terri-
Instructions say to use ASA Compatible Waterproof Sealant
(Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate plastic resin)

Jim is a bit of a rebel, so he used some Eco-bond clear sealant that was left over from a job he did. It only took four little dabs. Here's hoping it was an adequate "substitute", we haven't had any rain on it yet!!

Fantastic Vent Ultra Breeze vent cover gets a thumbs up from us!
We just tried it out for the first time. Weather was hot and muggy when we arrived at our campsite. No sooner did we set up camp, when it started to rain. We climbed in inside our mcnugit, turned on the fan, and enjoyed the cool breeze until the rain shower passed. We stayed nice and dry. After the initial installation, you can pop it on and off in less than 2 minutes with 4 cotter pins. Another winner from Fantastic Fan!

Let me add a question on here for Jim too - other than aesthetic reasons, is there any reason why you couldn't leave it on when you travelled? (I.e., - high probability of stopping for the night in a downpour?)

Rick,
First of all, the flat bottom on the vent cover doesn't conform exactly to the curved roof of our 550. Second, the vent cover is designed to mount loosely (which is what makes it so easy to put on and take off), and is only held in place by 4 cotter pins. Those factors combined, it is not likely it would remain attached at highway speeds, or at least WE wouldn't feel comfortable driving with it in place.

Steve, not sure what you are looking for, but the fantastic fan is Camp-Inn standard issue. The only difference from adding the vent cover is the four mounting brackets that lay flush on the roof which have a 1/2 inch high by 1/8 inch diameter shaft sticking up. If necessary, we can post a photo for you. You wouldn't notice them from street level.

We are currently experiencing wet weather while camping, and the vent cover continues to serve us well!

I am thinking about getting one of these. Has anyone with a 560, air conditioner and sunroof tried this? Just wondering if there is enough space.

I took a look at my fantastic fan. It looks like there would be no problem with the front but it seems like the back edge would run into the bolts of the air conditioning vent. Oh well, I have been able to keep the cover open somewhat without rain coming in. That will have to be good enough.

I like the idea of this product very much, it reminds me of a dorade box on a sailboat. We are having our TD built at CampInn as I type this. I'm wondering if CampInn would install it if I had the unit shipped straight to to Necedah?

Has anyone wound up shipping a Fan-Tastic Fan vent cover straight to Necedah to have Camp-Inn install it during their trailer build? Is CI agreeable to doing that sort of thing?

Is this vent cover still a good option for being able to keep the fan open and get a breeze during rain? Or is there something newer and better on the market nowadays that you'd recommend, other than a canopy?

I have one and it has worked well the couple of times we have used it, though it does look really stupid. It is so big it looks really strange on top of such a small trailer. I didn't notice any reduction in gas mileage but I am sure it has some effect; It could possibly be stored in the TV, but again it is so big it is a pain. Installation is quite simple, four brackets under the corner fan mounting screws, you just have to be sure to put sealer back on the screws when they are put back. The brackets stay on the trailer and once the brackets are installed, putting the vent cover on and off is easy, four small hitch pins and washers.

I think if you can put up with the looks and the hassle of hauling it along, it is valuable if you will be in wet weather.
