Dri-Z-Air

Has anyone ever tried a "Dri-Z-Air" for controlling moisture and condensation. It has a powder/crystals in it that absorbs moisture. Once it is saturated, you replace the powder/crystals. I am guessing it will not absorb enough to do any good. I had a lot of condensation while camping on the coast the past couple of days (low 40's at night).

 

The problem with 'Dri-Z-Air' is the plastic holder that they sell. As the calcium chloride crystals absorb moisture, liquid accumulates in the base of the holder. A full packet of crystals will fill the base almost to the top. The liquid is 'sticky' and the container is easy to spill.

Instead, I use a 4lb container of 'DampRid' (same ingredients as Dri-Z-Air but in a large plastic tub with a permeable covering over the opening). The container has a lid that is removable so you can seal it up when not in use.

I typically don't bring it when camping, but once I'm back home I open up the container and leave it in the cabin until the next trip.

I like this because it pills moisture out between trips and we carry it with us and it helps a bit then too. You just plug it in for a few hours to recharge, don't have to worry about stuff spilling and it shows easy. They have ones that are for even larger spaces which might pull more moisture.

That said, I am not sure it would help with lots of condensation. When it is just me and our son, we don't produce the same condensation as when my husband is with us. When he comes along, we ventilate a lot more, opening windows a bit wider and we will run the fan more.
