  1. Normally, we are not a big fan of commercial campgrounds but we wanted come to this area and we had long since missed the window for a reservation at one of the 2 state parks in the area. We had recently heard of this place and decided to try it. We liked it and actually after seeing both the state parks, this place would be second choice behind Huntington Beach State Park especially during the busy summer months.

It is not as a big as some of the monstrous ones over on the beach itself. There are about 50 sites or so. The location is inland a few miles which actually puts you away from some to the craziness of the beach. Located on the Waccamaw River made for nice location and you can swim in the river. They also had a fishing pier there and you can rent kayaks at the campground if you don't have your own. Just downstream is a swing bridge that turns 90 degrees instead of being raised for larger boats to pass.

Sites are concrete but we were still able to use our REI Alcove over the back of the camper as it was just narrow enough to be able to stake it down. We use the PVC frame in the side tent to keep the floor tight in it. Sites are full hook up. There is some shade in the campground and the closer you are to one end, the sooner you get it. As you are looking at the map you want to be on the left end as you look at the river. They patrol a lot and we found it to be very quiet for the most part. The bathrooms are very clean and they are individual rooms with sink, toilet and shower. Sites closest to the river are more expensive. They do have a pool and a restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. The owners were easy to deal with and would come back here again.

The location puts you several miles from the beach but they will shuttle you there and back. Surfside and Garden City are the closest places to get on the beach. You are out the southern end of the Myrtle Beach area in this area.
