We stayed in Ft. Wilkins State Park last week on the tip of the Upper Peninsula's upper peninsula, Keweenaw. The colors were just about peak and the weather was perfect - from 55-72 for highs and mid-40's to 50's for lows - and clear skies all week. We did some backpacking, a few day hikes, and loads of driving all over.
The park was relatively quiet considering the colors were at their peak, which was just fine with us. It's a beautiful area, definitely worth the drive.

Ken, I can imagine what it must have looked like. We are still hot and dry. The fall will be more brown and dead than red and orange. I am jealous of where you can launch from for northern camp trips. This is the first year in several I will not be going to Charlevoix...Beaver Island to hunt. Next year...next year.

Steve, we have friends who go to Beaver Island every year and they love it up there. We've never made it there, but have visited that area of the state and it's great. What do you hunt there?

Ken,
We go up and hunt deer. Usually for three or four days after the 15th of November. It is a hunt that has been taking place for 35 years now. This is the 28th year on BI. I have been up there twice in the summer. The boats are just stunning and the people very friendly.

Sounds like a great trip Steve. We know a family in the neighborhood that go every summer. I'll have to remember it when planning trips for next year.
