SUV Off-Road Ci Off Road Package

David Olson

Novice
Are there any suggestions on the CI off road package?
We are ordering our CI in a week and haven't decided on whether or not to get the off road package.
Does it go down the road smoother with the higher tires? Any better gas mileage with the higher tires or even lower because of the higher drag?

I can't tell you if it rides any differently than the non SUV model, & my guess would be that mileage difference between the 2 would be negligible. But the SUV model sits about 3" higher, which makes a big difference working at the galley countertops. I would say that if you're 5'8" or taller to go for the SUV package.

Maybe one of the CampInn folks will give you answers on drag, mileage, etc.

Even though the off-road package is popular, I'd bet that more often than not people choose it because of the countertop height than for actual 'offroading'.

I always wanted the non-SUV height so it would look good with the mini van, and when we purchased ours already complete from a customer who couldn't take receipt for his, it was just what we wanted. Now that we've used it a while I realize that the counter height of the SUV or off road would have been better on my back. It's no real big deal cause I don't cook THAT much when camping, but it would be nice to have it a bit taller - and I'm 5'3" and Bill's 5'2". I can only imagine how low it must seem to someone even taller!

We live on a gravel road with massive potholes, and we tow with both an SUV and my wagon. The SUV package was one thing I wanted to make sure we had (no argument from the Hub on that). We haven't taken it off road yet, but I like to know it is there when I am ready. I agree, I also like the higher counters as well. Also, I like those extra couple of inches for when we travel on snow too.

We taken our to Colorado and done some camping in fields with the Mile High Jeep Club. Handles great in the cow/horse pastures.

It is also nice if you sit in the open door way of the trailer if you are taller, as you sit higher.

Uff Da Inn has SUV package. Love the counter height, and I am short.

SUV should be repurposed to high or low counter height.

Base the decision on your back.
