Cedar Key is known as the Clam Capital of Florida. Tony’s in town has won the National Clam Chowder Championship 3 times. There is a variety of choices for camping. Cedar Key RV Resort is 8 miles from town and offers a more RV Resort environment. Low Key Hideaway is a very small campground near town of 8 or 9 sites, all of which are right on the water. Low Key Hideaway is known for their Tiki Bar and great views. Finally Shell Mound is a County Park is a 15 to 20 minute ride from Cedar Key. The campsites vary from primitive to electricity and water. We loved the trails at Shell Mound and history of the area. Cedar Key offers great kayaking and bird watching also. One of the first railroads in Florida ran from Fernandina Beach to Cedar Key. We found evidence of the old railroad trestle on one of our hikes.
