Camping In Canada Questions

Discussion in 'Trip Planning' started by Warren Mary Ellen, Nov 27, 2022.

  1. Looking at camping in Canada in the future, possibly summer of ‘23. Quebec & the Martime provinces would be mostly be our destinations. Anything I would need to know about camping in Canada? Any helpful websites? Places to visit or camp in? Best times of the summer to go & is there a time to avoid? I’ve looked at the few places reviewed here. Thanks in advance for any info.

we've been to Canada a couple of times, both in the maritimes. Our first trip back in 2014 was epic. Worked our way up from maine through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to North Sydney where we took the ferry over to Port Aux Basques on Newfoundland (about 6 hours). We spent two weeks cruising the island, including Gros Morne NP and a number of provincial parks. Never made a reservation and never had a problem. Just a wonderful place. They call it The Rock.
We departed Newfoundland from Argentia on the overnight ferry. That was a hoot.
If you want to take those ferries make sure you book a long time in advance.

We also made a trip to Fundy which was much shorter but also very cool. Good camping and nice hiking. Also found great seafood in Alma, the little town near the park. Definitely made a reservation to stay in Fundy.

We'd highly recommend a trip to Newfoundland for sure. The trip to get to the ferry is awesome in itself. Head up the Ceilidh Trail on the west side of Nova Scotia, listen to some music, sample some local single malt. Hard to beat.
