NC Private CG Blue Bear Mountain Camp

Discussion in 'Southeast' started by Warren Mary Ellen, Jun 9, 2023.

  1. Nice campground other than we saw none of the Blue Bears that give the place its name. Some electric sites and some without. C1, C2, C3 are all in the shade all day. C3 is the biggest of these & all 3 have electricity. C8 would have shade late in the day & has electric. Water is availability at the Bathhouse which also has a dishwashing sink on the outside. Most of the rest are in the open all day. They have wood & ice on site. Well kept place. Bathhouse was clean everyday. You are over 4000 feet elevation here so nights are comfortable in the summer. No signs marking where to turn off the road so you will need to use GPS navigation to get here. You turn off of NC 194 on to Long Hope Hope Road and it’s gravel. Blue Mountain Road is about 1.5 miles & again there is no sign other than a road name sign. Campground is at the top of the hill. Do NOT take Brookshire Rd to get here if your navigation tells you (See thread in Confessions tab).

We would camp here again if we can get the above sites I mentioned. Staff was polite & helpful. Really quiet as sites are spread out. You are near Boone, NC which is neat area. App State University is there so it is a college town. Blowing Rock is a nice town to visit and the Blue Ridge Parkway right by it. Moses Cone is here & if you ever bought a pair of Levi’s, you helped build it. You can tour it. Elk Knob State Park is near the campground with great hiking. It’s a little dated but the NYT has a 36 hours in Boone, NC article from about 4 years ago.

The bears may not be blue but the mountains are.
