IA State Park Bellevue State Park

  1. Camped here for 3 nights and we liked the campground plus the nearby town of Bellevue. For 2 of the nights, we had camping with us WALL-E with Ron & Missy. We had a great time getting to know each other.

When you drive into the campground the first thing you see is the new bathhouse. Nice bathrooms with 4 individual shower rooms. Pro tip: the one one the far right is the handicapped one and is a little bigger. This is also the storm shelter.

To the right is a short loop that is really more for large campers and are all pull through sites. To the Left is another loop that you will pass as you enter the campground. I would get one of these next time. The rest is a series of loops that cross from left to right. As you move away from the bathhouse you are going downhill & remember the bathhouse is at the top. The hill is steep enough that each loop is terraced. (See pic below).

Sites are gravel with electricity, but you will have to get water from one of the 3-4 spigots located throughout the campground. Firewood for sale, but for ice you will have to go to town for,

Walk down to either picnic shelters for nice views of the Mississippi River, nice color at sunset, The other park is in 2 units. There are hiking trails in both. The other area has a butterfly garden and a great view of the river.

in town, Potters Mill is a good restaurant for BBQ & neat building too. Richmon’s is more like diner food. Good chicken fried steak & homemade pies. Brewery along the river is nice too & they had live music on Saturday when we were there. Also, Backstreet Bicycles is a neat stop. The owner has several antique bikes he’ll gladly show you plus a lot of old Schwinn bikes too. Grabbed some really good pork chops at Benders Grocery there too.

The road to the campground is a dusty gravel one. Once you are in the park it is paved. We found a good spray off car wash in Bellevue too. Turn off the road by the river on Hwy 61 & it is 2 blocks down.

We would definitely camp here again if we are in the area.
