Back From Texas

Tour 931

Ranger
I returned from Texas on Monday but haven't been able to get on the forum. Don't know what the problem was but I'm able to get on now.

I took the Ford Transit Connect this trip because all I needed was a place to sleep and the van provided that. I drove 4,352 miles in six days (three down and three back) with a four day visit. It took 15 fill ups for a total of 152.047 gallons which made the average 28.622 mpg. The Outback pulling the trailer would have been a lot less.

Driving so much took its toll on me and I don't think I will ever do it again. If all I did was drive it would have been okay but I made a lot of sight seeing stops so to make the daily miles I needed to do meant I had to drive till midnight and then get up around five am just to do it again.

Yeah, that kinda schedule gets real old, real fast, especially if you are doing all the driving. 600/day is about my limit these days, and that's a not fun schedule either. 2-300/day with stops to smell the roses is a lot more enjoyable.

The last time I did this trip I took six weeks. That meant I only had to get about a hundred miles down the road. But it was common for me to drive twice that far getting off the main route and seeing stuff off the beaten path.
