Assistance moving the TD

Hi Folks,

I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a system to make it easier to control the direction of the TD when you are moving it by hand.

Maybe something under the tongue jack caster... my problem is that the caster works fine once you have it pointed in the right direction, but it seems to have a mind of its own and I constantly have to kick it with my foot to get it back pointed in the right direction... any ideas would be appreciated.

I did find a trailer dolly - but that is a big piece of equipment to carry around for those few times you need to really move the trailer.

Frank P - you must have something - you are always moving the TD around.

Thanks in advance

I applied a small amount of axle grease to the lower section (the one that fits inside the upper section) of the wheel jack. It's been working fine since then, which was 3 years ago.

Dave,

Do it when the trailer is hitched to the car. Then you can rotate the jack so the wheel points up. That way the WD will run down into the jack nicely.

Yah, what they said.
I tried the Silicone spray first, sorta worked but then got the axle grease, Fred Meyers has them, and smooth some grease on the shaft. Messy if you're not careful, I used a paper towel, and just sort of spread it around quick n simple. Up in the air like Cary said, hitched up so you can turn it to spread it around.

Only draw back is that it looks messy and probably collects dirt and grim, but use a thin coating.

I believe the reason I had to go to the next step was that the WD/Silicone didn't seem to last that long or something like that.

I got the Grease for something else on the trailer, forgot what right now but just had it. I got the grease gun.. like a caulking gun, works as the best solution as it comes with grease inside already.

Heheh, just becareful, it can get a little messy and use about half as much as you think you need...

HTH..

If you are talking about trying to move your TD into place when it is not hooked up to the TV. I mounted a ball hitch on to the front of our lawn mower. I drop the hitch onto the ball and just drive the camper into place. I do keep the guide wheel down slightly just to keep a bit of weight off the front of the mower. I can back it right into the corner of our shed.

I found it very difficult to move the trailer over the ball when leaving a campsite (especially on dirt). So I cut a piece of PVC pipe that is a little more than the distance between the ground and the top of the ball. When I want to move the trailer in a certain direction by hand, I lower the trailer onto the pipe, when there is no weight on the wheel, move the wheel in the direction I want the trailer to go, raise the trailer until the pipe falls and I can then push the trailer over the ball.
