Kelley and I drove to Necedah over the Holidays and on 3 Jan picked up our new 560 Ultra SUV. While the round trip over three and a half days and over 2,100 miles was busy, we now have our "baby" safely home in Texas.

Cary did a phenomenal job walking us through every aspect of the camper - time (6 hours) very well spent. It may be hard for some to believe, but that six hours made the over two thousand mile drive worth making.

It was also great seeing the facility and meeting other members of the Camp-Inn build team. Everyone was very friendly and bent over backwards to ensure that we felt welcome and well taken care of.

Based on weather, Camp-Inn folks wrapped our camper completely for the trip home - so, sadly we still have to sport the "0 Nights" image. Hopefully not for long!

We look forward to finalizing the outfitting of our camper and getting out there to enjoy it. (Greg)

Congrats on acquiring your new trailer! And glad to see you made it home safe and sound.

OK, so what's the story behind 'Tater Hut'?

With a last name of "Tate" I have been nicknamed "Tater" throughout my career in the Army - and hence the family nickname of "Tater Fam." Kelley thought this would be a fun name - and capture the essence of our past along with the concept of a "hut" which she defines as a small, yet comfortable place to stay when traveling. - Greg

Congrats, Greg and Kelley. You will love your teardrop - and it is like camping in a hut!
My sister lives in Denton and whenever we visit with the trailer we stay at the Pilot Knoll campground on Lewisville Lake in case you're looking for a decent spot that's close-by to do a shakedown trip. Kathy

Hi Jenn - Yes, Texas winters are fairly mild. By the way, we saw your camper parked in the bay while at Camp-Inn. Have loved your posts - very informative and they are a great guide for us newbies. Thanks for the experienced counsel!

Our only challenge for winter camping is that Kelley is an accountant and works in the tax area. As you can imagine February to mid-April are tough for her to get away. That said, Kelley is an understanding wife . . . . so I may end up going for local area camping without her. (Greg)

Kathy & Bob - Thanks for the suggestion on Lewisville Lake and Pilot Knoll. Sounds perfect for what we have been looking for as a quick first trip. (Greg)

  11. Congrats Greg & Kelley! Love the name and glad to hear yet once more how valuable the trip to Necedah is. We plan to go this coming summer after much debating. Your 2100 makes our 1200 seem silly:) Enjoy and can't wait to hear more on your first nights in the Hut!

We just spent a couple of weeks in Port Aransas. We would have loved to bring our 550 but when we left Minnesota the roads in Iowa were still closed due to a snow storm. Still 3" of snow with ice underneath when we went through at 5 to 20 mph. We watched for any small trailers in TX but all we saw were the big guys. Enjoy your 560 in TX - lots of places to camp.

Pat - can't wait to hear about your trip. We are considering a trip to Alabama via TX late March/early April and stops in San Antonio and/the coast sound interesting. Kathy
