Couch / Bunk Beds 550 Vs 560 Bad Weather Comfort Level

Okay, my first question.....the scenario--your camp is set up. It's started raining, the wind kicks up,it starts to pour, it's chilly, enough that it's not that comfortable to sit outside under your canopy or in a chair in your side tent. You decide to make a cup of tea, close the galley and settle in.....during the day to wait it out a bit. How comfortable are you going to be?

In the 560 on the couch, seems pretty attractive. In the 550 with pillows up against the cabinets are you as comfortable? Could three people sit on the couch or on pillows against cabinets watching a movie or reading and be comfortable?

The feedback will help with my decisions. Thinkin' thinkin'

The 560 doesn't just have a couch- it has a slight recline to it so you're not sitting straight up- so if you like sitting in your favorite recliner with your feet up on a rainy day, reading and dozing with the TV on quietly in the background get the 560- not to mention it turns into bunk beds in the event that you just MIGHT need them one day. You never know what the future holds... If it's hot and rainy that AC is gonna be HEAVEN!

I've never sat in a 550 so my opinion is gonna be skewed. I don't see how we could camp in bad weather without the couch.

Regardless of what model you choose, my answer will be an Eureka Northern Breeze tent.

Or else go for a drive with the family. I don't have young kids now, young kids most likely will get restless unless you have gameboy type entertainment.

I have the 550, no couch. Can be fairly comfortable supporting back with pillows.

More then two adult in any tear is way too many people.

It will depend on what appeals to you most & what you are most comfortable with.

We have a 550 & have had all four of us in it on occasion (including to sleep) when the kids were younger (9 & 15). Usually, they were in a tent. Have never been uncomfortable sitting up in the 550. Used it in rain, cold & snow.

Have used a 560. Had all four of us in it - 3 on bed, 1 on sofa when kids were 17 & 22. Sofa is nice. Extra room is nice.

We wouldn't trade the 550 for a 560. However, that is OUR preference.

You really need to try both out to see what you prefer/what fits your needs.

Attitude. One person can be sitting there just a comfortable as can be, while the person next to them is miserable as hell. We find the 550 great for sitting up for a couple of hours - after that I get antsy and my feet want down (they would in a 560 too) and Susan will slide down. Class A folks would be miserable in either.

Did you ever see a kid uncomfortable sitting in a tent? Attitude.

Great question...
I am with Jean, I second the Northern Breeze. With a Little Buddy Heater and a couple of recliner chairs and you can be comfortable on the coldest, rainiest of days. We went from tents to Camp-Inn. What would we do with a tent in bad weather? Well, we would be inside likely damp, in our sleeping area. Even with a vestibule the moisture seeps in.
The Northern Breeze allows you to change clothes in, hang damp clothes, room for a table, ice chest, chairs, and just about everything most of us will take on any camp trip. We carry it on just about every outing and set it up on less than half.
With no floor it is lighter than another tent. To dry it out, I hang it from the corners upside down under the porch. It drys quickly.

Wonderful variety of input! Thanks so much.

We do have an REI Alcove with two sides that we can buy more sides for, so that's a possibility. It can rain alot here in WNC. I want to get away from any major set ups....keepin' it simple. I guess I'm going to have to see both in person. May be driving to points afar in my future.

Paula,

One point that wasn't answered. I would not consider the couch well suited for three people. Unless one or two of them is really small of course. I sit on the couch with my two kids but both are even skinnier than me and my daughter tends to squeeze in as tight to dad as she can anyhow. Consider the couch a nice sized love seat, really meant for two.

We have a 550 and have some good sized couch pillows sitting against them (in the corners) with room for a cribage board in the middle and drinks in our cup holders (music from our Bose) we are very comfortable for hours. We also use the Northern Breeze and we could be in there for all day if needed.

We have a 550 and it is more than comfortable enough for us, but keep in mind that half of fishing is who you're fishing with! :)

Well, it depends !!

We decided not to get the " Propane Heater Option "..

So, we made it into a " Queen Size Pillow "..
