#454 On the road!

KathyBob

Junior Ranger
We picked up our TD on September 20, 2011 and spent the night at Castle Rock County Park. Very sorry we weren't able to stay through the CICO weekend, but were able to meet Tom (of TomNGayle #455 who had picked up on the 19th) and George. Very pleasant/funny conversation AND a taste of George's DO cooking skills. Only problem was intermittent alarms from the CO monitor which we finally (4:30am) figured out was caused by outgassing from the side tent which was still in its bag and resting at our feet. Switched it to the car, reset the power and slept another 1 1/2 hours.

The next night was spent at the J.W. Wells State Park just north of Menominee, MI. Beautiful park on the northwestern shore of Lake Michigan. A fair number of big RVs, but very clean individual shower rooms AND free internet access. Next day took Hwy 2 across the UP, then headed south to Lansing, MI area. At Clare, a couple of guys in a truck followed us to the gas station because they were so curious about the TD. Fun conversation, but in all the mess in our car couldn't find the brochures Cary had provided. We did share the website.

Spent yesterday taking everything out of the TD and car, reorganizing, and deciding what we could donate to Goodwill. Did laundry. Today, Bob washed and Woody waxed the TD. We'll head east on October 3 with stops in ME, NJ, NC, GA, AL, TX and points west depending on the weather. Will try to attach pictures once we figure out how to do that. It has been almost exactly a year since we stopped in Necedah, looked at the TDs, and seriously considered actually buying one. So exciting to actually have one!

My CO monitor went off unexpectedly one evening. The fan was on and both windows were open. May have been due to my Mom's feet blocking it. Not sure. Turned power off and on and the monitor stopped beeping.

I took some of my brochures and put them in the slot behind the passenger seat of my car. That way, I can hand them out without opening the galley where the rest of them are stored.

When we picked Dottie up, Craig suggested we keep several bronc urea in our glove box (or somewhere in the car) as well as in the galley. That way, if we dont want to show, we can hand them one and dash. We have found that to be handy.

I am blanking (very tired today), what is CO? I know I will forehead-smack as soon as you tell me.

Congrats on your pick up!

I did find the brochures! Good idea about keeping a few in the glove box and a few behind the seat. Today will be a big day for our TD - all Bob's brothers are gathering to watch the Lions beat the Vikings (!) and the TD will be open for viewing.

KathyandBob...

Glad you are on the road and camping... such fun! Karin and I made up business cards with a photo of Towed Hall on the front and our first names, Towed Hall, and CampInn website and phone numbers on the back. Easy to stick in a wallet or pocket as we have had people track us down as we are touring (away from the car) and ask about the camper. If we get an official looker, we go to the heavy duty brochures. Enjoy... the questions are always great..."does it go up", "does it go out", nope what you see is what you get and that is PLENTY!

CO - carbon monoxide

I was thinking that was the case. I guess we don't have that in the trailer. Did you have Camp-Inn put that in for you or did you do it 'after market'? It is something I have thought about.
