2014 Camping Season Kick-off

Just back from our 50th outing in our McNugit. We had a wonderful kick-off to the 2014 camping season, at Occoneechee SP, in Clarksville, VA. We hiked, biked, and endured a very windy waterfront campsite. The Northern Breeze held up like a champ, but we still moved our campsite further inland on the second day, to get out of the wind. So glad we did, or else we would have missed out on our owl encounter. Around dusk, we heard some Barred Owls in the distance, when, suddenly, two of them swooped in and landed in the trees, right above our heads. I was able to get some video of them, perched, and then silently flying off. We then spent the next hour sitting by our campfire, listening to their calls. This is what camping is all about!!

Wonderful - I love natures surprise visits. It is still snowing and cold here but I had a visit from a male pileated woodpecker on our deck this morning does not match camping but was a sweet event.
