You're 100% right about any damage under the Alcan. I guess the only way forward is to use the naphtha to remove any tar and see what's left behind on the visible portions of the CI. Sounds like if there is pitting mixed in with the tar, there's not that much I can do about it? No magic...

Almost positive it only appears if you tow with a low profile vehicle. Our SUV isn't very tall. Your Ram is probably way taller.
