Cleaning the Stainless in the Galley

Thought I would share this cleaning tip that works for me.

Our kitchen has had A LOT of use (10 years worth) & those who know me know I do A LOT of cooking in that little kitchen. I used to use a stainless cleaner, which worked okay but there have been times when things have "cooked" on the walls - the latest being a pork marinade/glaze. Once cooked on, the stuff is near impossible to get off, even with scrubbing. Problem is, I don't want scratches from scrubbing.

Solution: Use Bon Ami! Make a light paste & use a soft bristle brush (toothbrush works great), then apply to the surface & scrub until it's clean. It really doesn't take much scrubbing. Wipe off with a wet microfiber cloth. I also wet a cloth and rub it in the paste. Then wipe down the entire counter/walls, rinse the cloth, wipe again & dry with a microfiber cloth. Not only does it clean, but it polishes the stainless. Leaves a really nice, nongreasy luster, as close as you will get to it looking new.

The great thing is IT DOESN'T SCRATCH the stainless...not at all!

So, give it a try...if scrubbing the stainless makes you a bit queasy, try it first in an out-of-the-way spot (where the stove stores).

Bon Ami is much cheaper than stainless cleaners and, for me, easier to store than a spray can cleaner.

Note: I do NOT use this on the brushed aluminum...just on the stainless.

Thanks Betsey, that's a great tip. I did scratch up ours a bit when cleaning over the stove area, but will not be making it any worse after your Bon Ami tip.

    Ken,

This was only a recent discovery. I was just giving the galley a good cleaning and I realized I hadn't posted using Bon Ami & thought it might be of use to others, so I typed it while it was still fresh in my mind.

I don't think I have seen that on the shelves where I am, I know my mother and my wife and I used to se it. Their motto is "Hasen't scratched yet" with a drawing of a fresh hatched chick.

Bought it, tried it and although my "Main stain" was a little rougher than most and needed the heavy-duty stainless steel cleaner, the Bon Ami will be used to clean up after the trips on a regular basis... thanks..

I found Bon Ami at the local HyVee grocery store. Took some looking, and there it was.

We tried everything to remove some cooking stains on the stainless behind the stove (409,stainless steel cleaner, citrus) nothing seemed to touch it. Bon Ami did the job with no problem - looks like new. Thank you for posting.
