Prospective owner - Teardrops in WA? TV size?

Discussion in 'Meet & Greet' started by genevieveraymond, May 11, 2011.

  1. Hi! 2 days after discovering the 560, I'm totally obsessed. We've been thinking about buying a little piece of land, but this would be cheaper! And so many more places to explore!

We live on Vashon Island, WA, just outside of Seattle with 6-year old twins. I'm trying to convince my husband of our DIRE NEED for a teardrop. (I don't think he'll need TOO much convincing.) I noticed there are some owners around here (Seattle, Federal Way, Olympia). Any chance we could come over to check one out in person? (Is that too forward?)

Our biggest issue is that we'd need to get a vehicle big enough to tow it with. Right now we have a Subaru Forester and it sounds like that wouldn't cut it? Any thoughts? We're a one-car family and would like to stay that way, so we don't want to be driving around in anything too huge when we're not towing a trailer. What's the smallest/most fuel-efficient vehicle we could get away with? We were wondering about a VW TDI Jetta (only 4-cyl, but maybe more towing capacity since it's a diesel?) or a Subaru Outback...

    Thanks!

    Genevieve

Welcome! I completely understand your obsession. I've had mine for almost a year now. I do not have my 560 yet but will be picking her up in July. I plan to tow with my 2009 Subaru Forester. With trailer brakes, it is rated to tow 2400lbs. This should be plenty. I believe that there are other owners who tow with a Forester. You do not mention what year you have.

Be prepared, once you see the 560 you will be putting in your order.

Hi, Genevieve! We live in Federal Way but our 550 Classic won't be ready for pick-up until August. Evan from Olympia is putting together a camping outing in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest the first weekend in August (in the Forum List, click on "Gatherings," then on "2011 NW Camp-Inn Round UP - IT'S OFFICIAL!" to get the details). We are going, but will sleep in a tent. We wanted to meet some people from our area and see how they set up their teardrops. Maybe you could join us for the weekend or just drive down for the day. The people who communicate on the Forum are great: very willing to share their expertise. Welcome! Bob & Kathy

We had a similar experience. We have a 3-year old and when I found the Camp-inn website, I was sold. As soon as my husband saw it in person, he was sold and the order went in the next day. We picked ours up last October and didn't get out much over the winter, but have done 2 trips this spring and it has been great. We are still going through the 'that is just so smart!' phase regarding everything on the trailer. Be prepared to fall in love!

    Good luck!

    Genevieve,
We have a 2009 forester and a 560 and have no problem towing it. Actually we get about 22 mpg while towing the trailer.

  6. Wow, how great to hear that folks can tow with a Forester! I just looked up towing capacity for the 2006, and it says 2400 lbs. I was just thrown off by the Camp-Inn site saying 6 cyl.

I fell so in love with the teardrop that we were almost ready to think about trading in our Soobie, so now that we don't have to, it feels like a done deal! Gathering in Gifford Pinchot sounds great--I'll check it out.

    Thanks!

The Subarus almost seem to be contrary to the 6 cyl recommendation. I have a customer towing a 560 with a Forrester with a 4 cyl that he replaced his 6 cyl Forrester with. He swears the 4 cyl tows it better. Still scratching my head on that one, more torque or something?

    Howdy Genevieve,
More than happy to show it, 550 if that would help.
I live in Kent, south of the South Center Mall north of the Hwy 516.. I-5 exit 249 short ferry ride over...

They are a kick. Heading out to Kalaloch this weekend to watch the waves roll in, but following 2 weekends are open.. as of now anyway... want to do a quickie over at Mt Rainier..
Let me know. I do a lot of trips around the great PNW and have a Trip Planner site at the website... lists places and a lot of the state park links etc..
Just let me know if you're interested in the 550...

    Genevieve,

With Camp-Inns, it is not too forward to ask to come look at one, because normally the owners are just waiting to show off their baby to anyone who cares to look.

We have a 560 in Olympia, and you are welcome to come by on an evening or weekend to take a look. PM me if you want and I'll give you my cell number.

  12. Hey fpoole and Evan, I'll be in touch! We just got back from a month out of the country (Argentina) and then my husband had to rush off to New York for a week--just got back today--so we're eager to do some serious nesting, but also very eager to see a Camp-Inn. Thanks for the offers!

Actually, the best thing to do is to contact Cary at Camp Inn and let him assign you to someone to go see theirs - that way when you place your order they will be rewarded for their time and effort with a percentage back on theirs. That's another thing about this great company - shown enough, eventully you could get your money back - or part of it! That's what we did.

    Linda,

I don't think it matters whether you go through Cary or not. I believe if you show your Camp Inn to someone and they go on to buy it, they will receive the 'reward' regardless whether Cary sent them or not. They just need to let Cary know.

Joan is correct, it doesn't matter if they were referred by us or not. One thing I do need to point out though. We can only honor one coupon per order. So, if you are visiting multiple customers before placing an order remember that you are going to have to pick one to use for a referral. This is why I don't give out more than one customer contact when someone calls us wanting to see one in person. I just couldn't bear to make the call who gets the referral and who doesn't.
