I had an 87 Bronco II for towing my first teardrop. The B2’s were known for having weak springs in the back and most sagged even without a load. A lot of people put the later Explorer springs on them. I put air springs on mine and could quickly pump them up when heavy.

I'll have to look for that feature in the manual, that'd be helpful even when not towing.

I think they are all pretty bad. I hadn't really seen the lowering -- I think that started with "HID"

I know my Rav4 is like daylight in front of me -- the auto-dimming (low beam) when oncoming headlights are detected helps...but I am pretty sure many people are just driving with their brights on....oncoming traffic be damned. Since 2020 I wasn't required to drive as much, and I lost my night ability. I'm sure I can get it back just by doing it. But too many deer, and stupid people. I made an agreement with my bride that "Except for extreme situations" we start driving in the morning after breakfast, and are stopped by 5pm. longest days of summer, maybe a little later.

The trip to Necedah will be one of those exceptions. I know we'll have to drive 'til probably 9 the first night to get there in a reasonable time.

I've driven at night way too long, too far
and scared myself with near misses enough times to just not do it...except in emergency and then carefully. My trick is find a semi going my way, my pace and hang back aways to watch his brake lights.

I have upgraded to aftermarket bright LED headlight and fogs that let me see "eye-shine" standing on the shoulder, in the ditches or crossing from fields from further out,
and go slow enough to be ready to dodge or take that beast on a fender vs thru the windshield, hopefully.

Could get a bit western while towing so I try to be pulled over, setting up and toasting the sun going down with a cold one, instead.

I’m watching the sunrise as I enjoy my first cup of coffee while planning the day hooking up the 560 and packing. I’ll leave for Necedah late tomorrow. Hope to see you at the CICO.

Och. I spent some time this morning winterizing the 560’s water system and hanging a few more hooks in the garage for all the stuff. Our season is over, all the best to everyone at CICO!

I’ll winterize mine when I get back. This will be the last trip of the year.

Launch of the 931 space capsule has been delayed 18 hours. I made an appointment at the Madison VA for Monday and will be halfway there. So I’ll be staying two more days out on the road at the end of the trip. I’m mostly packed and just need to do the toiletries at the last hour. I’ll buy groceries in Necedah.

    Gene,

Necedah does not have a grocery store. You will want to plan a stop elsewhere for groceries on the way.

Thanks. I couldn’t put the park address into my GPS so I used a nearby pizza place.

  15. Waiting on 40 mph winds from the Hurricane to arrive along with some 60-70 mph gusts. And a lot of rain. So what time will I lose power and for how long will it be out. I predict 2:49 and it will be out for 36 hours. And if it is out for longer than that, I’m loading up Jeremiah and going camping somewhere.

We are feeling it in Florida! We’re on the east coast and getting gusts at the moment up to 50mph. I really feel for the people in the great bend area now that it’s up to category 4 with winds at 140mph. Complete devastation unfortunately.

To those who are coming to CICO, I can tell you the skies are shocking blue, with a few fluffy cumulous clouds. The breeze wonderful, and the air perfumed with pine. I honestly didn't remember the fragrance last year -- but it is intoxicating.

I walked over to A loop, which was open, but there was no snower, and no one was there, of course --- it was unrecognizable. The shelter of yore is gone, and the feeling of "ok, now where is my spot?" vanished since they've built 'pads' -- hopefully the rock getes tamped down -- it would be tough on the tootsies to walk there.

The loop we're in is filling up -- the chatter and banter from sites around me remind me of my childhood standing around the back fence talking to our neighbors about who knows what --- things that weren't important in any way, except that the conversations cemented the participants in a community. This is what camping is about.

I set up in a more central spot this year. I'm on the road behind the treeline just north of the showers. Its so much quieter and relaxing not having the endless serenade of pickups and cars transporting people to and fro.

Next to me is Tour931, and there is a spot just to my east. Power might be the only problem since the power pole is already taking my 50 foot cord to plug in. Of course, it really ins't needed -- the temperature is spot on perfect, eliminating the need for AC and heated blankets.
