2 Dumb Things

  1. It turns out if you don’t close the drain plug on a cooler it will leak a lot of water. Yep we drained the water from the cooler and threw in a new bag of ice in our cooler we had drinks in. Put it back in the tow vehicle and when we went to pack up this morning we discovered there was water in the the tow vehicle, our brand new car. Luckily, we had some extra blankets we took for the dogs that absorbed most of it. And the Subaru has the rubber tray in the back that held the rest. Not much was wet that wasn’t plastic or rubber.

The second dumb thing I did was to my glasses. I put them on the shelf that flips down and left the shelf down instead of closing it when I went to bed. Couldn’t find my glasses when I got up, so I went to the bathroom without them. While I was gone Mary Ellen found them in the side tent. I put them on, but then all of sudden she asks if I’m missing a lens. So I reach up and sure enough a lens is missing. I was walking around with a . She found the lens in the side tent. Mine are rimless, so I couldn’t get it back in the frame myself. Luckily, LensCrafters could repair them. Otherwise I wasn’t going to be able to drive except during the day if they couldn’t be fixed until I could get new ones.

This afternoon I'm sitting in camp reading and enjoying the sounds of the forest and I begin to hear a sound that didn't fit the pattern if the forest. It's coming from my open galley. It's a squirrel (little red, Jefferson squirrel), sitting on the top shelf digging at the plastic bag of the cinnamon bread. Bad squirrel. He.she,it,they get chased out but we continue this for about 30 minutes. I get a spray bottle of water from the car and begin another 30 min of chasing this guy out of my camp. We finally came to an understanding and he moved to a dryer camp. Yep little buddy, I'm leaving tomorrow.

  4. Back in 1992, I drove cross country one summer. Sitting at Yosemite one day eating a piece of a pizza outside sitting on a large rock. I’m reading something or looking at some maps and I turn to reach for the pizza. It’s gone and I look like about 10 feet away and there is a squirrel dragging the crust away.

  5. I was pretty restless last night. At some point I was a aware that the phone had been knocked off. It was in the middle of bed near the dogs. Half asleep, I never thought about anything else being knocked off. I will start securing them better from now on.

I have used LensCrafters while traveling for emergency repairs on my eyeglasses. They have always done so without a charge, and have politely refused to take a tip both times. And I had not bought them from LensCrafters. Discount tire seems to operate on the same policy. At least in the southeast locations I have used.

Yes, my first experience with Discount Tire was on my home from AZ with the CI in tow in 20017 after getting our newly purchased AZ home painted & furnished. Every time I stopped for fuel or a rest, I noticed one of my TV tires would be a bit low. So when I got to the Denver area I asked a gas station attendant where I could get it checked, and was directed to a Discount Tire shop. They had me unhitch the CI and got it right in, and found a nail in the affected tire. They fixed it, and said it was ready, all within about 30 minutes, but when I asked for the bill, they said "No Charge", and I was quickly on my way. I couldn't believe it, but I didn't forget it either, and have made several purchases there since.

I've had great service at my two closest Discount Tires and make a point every time to say thanks, and to contact mgmt one step up to give a pat on the back, to both- for the work and the leadership.

Seems to help my car-ma, too.
