Seems to me that camping is the very definition of social distancing. I work in a hospital and it has been so stressful, sure could use a getaway weekend. Unfortunately there are not a lot of close boondocking opportunities in my area. Sure hope that campgrounds and state parks reopen soon!

It’s difficult to think about a summer without camping. How will we feel about sharing water faucets & bathrooms?

Just wash your hands and wear a mask in common areas.

I’m disappointed Washington State closed all of the camps parks. Some could have stayed open. It should have been decided by each park.

When they do re-open I'd guess they'll be pretty jammed for a while as everyone races to get back camping. If you can get a spot it'll be a healthy way to get out into the world again!

I am with you on this. Already had to cancel two trips this year and two in June look sketchy.

We rely on campground bathrooms and showers, so we are, regretfully, sitting out summer camping season this year.

The bath houses are my greatest concern, too. As far as the stampede to get to campgrounds after reopening, I wonder about the general health of the economy. Will there be the number of people traveling far from home? Campers that drive a few hours from home will still occupy campsites, but the absence of long distance campers may keep sites available. Time will tell.

Public Campgrounds in FL stay booked, even in the summer. We generally have to book 11 months out for Reserve America. But, I do wonder how fast the economy will restart.

Some of the bathroom/showers are one person either sex in Washington. A lot of the newer ones have them.

My thought is there'll probably be plenty of people ready to get back out camping, both close to home and far. Not in the same numbers initially for sure. As for bathrooms/showers, it seems to me the issue won't be whether they are individual or group design - it will be 'who is going to clean them'? I don't think we'll see that happen broadly anytime soon. So my guess is the early campers will be 'on their own' in that regard. And hopefully not for very long.

  13. South Carolina State Parks are reopening tomorrow, May 1. There will be some restrictions, some are not allowing Day use visitors and it looks like Group facilities are still closed. The message on the site says there will be park by park decisions on how to handle limiting visitors. Our next reservations are Memorial Day weekend at Lake Hartwell State Park. We wil make a decision that week as we see how things are progressing here.

You can read the State Park's message on their homepage:

Our county parks are opening, but you have to have a bathroom in your rig. Rules me out!

I carry a pee bottle. Does that count?
