    Howdy!

We live in the DFW area and would love to take a look at a 560 Ultra Raindrop if anyone in the area is willing. Trying to buy one used and we'd like to see one live and in person before driving a ways to pick one up.

    Thanks!

Call Camp-Inn. They keep a list of folks all over the country that are willing to show their trailers.

I called and spoke with them already about how much weight could be put on top of the roof for a RTT, that we wanted to buy used but will need a roof rack (unless the used one we buy has one already) which they install there. Since I'd be buying used they wouldn't get me in touch with existing owners since that program is for folks looking to buy new, which makes sense. They suggested I post on this forum to see if anyone was willing to show theirs to us.

I'm a little surprised to hear that but it does make sense. There are a couple of good reviews of the 560 on Youtube. For what it's worth, I took the plunge and put in my order for a new 550 without having seen one firsthand. No regrets.

Thanks Ben! I think I'm there. We've rented three different kinds and know we like teardrop camping. We're a family of 5 so didn't think we'd get one until the kids moved out. Then I saw the RTT on their website which is the sort we've rented (nice if it rains). Now when the kids move out we can just remove the RTT and carry on :). Still thinking it through, but leaning towards getting one. Having this community to learn from helps, too!

What you describe is precisely what we plan on doing. We ordered a 560 that’s still being manufactured. We didn’t have any opportunity to see one first, just took the crazy plunge. Happy shopping.

Awesome! If you don't mind, tell me more about why you are buying new vs used. I understand the roof rack and RTT can be put on a used on as well (I think?).

Are you getting the RTT Camp-Inn sells or another one?

I hear the RTT might reduce mileage by 5 or 6 MPG. Would love to stay in touch to learn more there.

I read somewhere along the way that adding the roof rack post-manufacturing can be tricky bc the rack is installed in a very specific way to properly distribute weight on the beefiest parts of the internal structure of the trailer. That ruled out a used one for us bc I didn’t want to risk having a rack improperly installed and finding a used one with a roof rack factory installed seemed like a shot in the dark. Plus, we live in Alaska now. So let’s just say that the resale market is....thin up here. A quick email to Cary at CI should clear that up.

We are not getting the Yakima Sky Rise tent. I saw much better prices for that if purchased from a different vendor, and when I started looking around I identified a more robust option for only a bit more than the MSRP of the Yakima. REI just called me yesterday to say that our Tepui Autana Sky 3 is at the store and ready for pick up.

I’m sure the RTT will reduce mileage. But I’m also sure theres a mess of variables in there. Since we won’t be using the 560 without the tent for years at least, the only thing I’m going to be comparing is the mpg of the tow vehicle with nothing on the hitch and the mpg with the trailer+RTT.

    Ok, thanks for your thoughts/research!

The rooftop tent is a new option with the camp inn. I'm not sure how many units they've sold but I don't recall seeing any feedback on this forum. I'm sure there are a lot of folks who'll be interested to hear how this option works. Keep us posted!

Although it's not a 560 like you're looking for, I do have a 2005 550 Ultra that you can look at. Although it's an older model and there have been some little changes, it could help give you an idea on the actual sizes of things and how it all comes together. If nothing else, you can see how well they hold up!

I'm in Keller. If you'd like to take a look, let me know. Good luck in your search!

    Doug & Angela,

I just saw in the For Sale forum that you purchased a 560! Congratulations! I usually Camp-Inn one of the State Parks in East Texas... maybe we'll run into each other sometime. Have fun and enjoy your new camper!

Thanks Adam! I just drove one down from Glenwood Springs CO yesterday and today. The family loves it! I envision many good memories. Hopefully we can get up to WI this summer and get a roof rack installed, then we'll be set!
