Hello From Arkansas

  1. Hi - we have been teardrop admirers for about 10 years, but as we get closer to retirement we are starting to get serious. We still haven't really decided whether to buy or build since we are on a budget, but an older Camp-Inn would be very high on our list. I've already done some reading and see what a valuable resource this forum is, so I wanted to officially join so I can join in!

One question I have searched for but can't seem to find - my husband is 6'3, a little more in hiking boots. How tall is the space under the galley?

Welcome to the forum. My measurement puts it right at six feet. It only extends past the back an inch or two so a tall person could learn to not lean into the galley. The leading edge is a rubber gasket which would cushion a hit and not cause serious injury. But I’m only 5” 8”. A taller person might have a different perspective. My measurement is for the SUVpackage. Without it subtract three inches.

Suggestion... email campinn and ask if there is a owner near you with a trailer with SUV height option, that may or may not make it tall enough, but the best way to see if it will be comfortable is to just go check one out!

If your husband does a lot of the cooking, you definitely want the SUV option.

  6. I am 6 feet tall. We have the SUV option on our 560 Ultra and I have no problems and don't even think it is that close. I like having the SUV option because I have bad knees so being lower would make it more difficult to get out of the camper.

  7. Well, thank you, Tour 931, for taking the trouble to measure, and to the rest of you for your helpful comments and advice! I had concluded from reading other posts that we would probably need the SUV package but it really helps to know exactly what the height is. For budget reasons we would be looking for a used "home" so it's good to know that option is pretty much a requirement for us, then. Yes, my husband actually does do much of the cooking now; it is sort of a new hobby for him (got an instant pot for Christmas!) Although as backpackers, our camp cooking mostly involves boiling water so maybe it isn't that big a deal! Just keeping our options open :)

I'm 6'2" and have no trouble with the galley door, even with my hiking boots. We did buy the SUV version because we wanted the tables to be at a more comfortable height. Didn't even think about hitting heads on the door. We were lucky. And the mattress is also long enough for me with room left over.

  9. Thanks so much, I appreciate the info!
