    Hey all,

This one has been in the works awhile and we are very excited to release a new accessory. To protect the trailer we always recommend an enhanced mudflap arrangement on the tow vehicle. Usually these can get ugly, depending on the vehicle, and can look a bit like they belong on a dumptruck. A mudflap arrangement that attaches to the hitch is ideal because you can remove it when not towing. There are great existing offerings out there. The problem is most are made for a larger vehicle than the average tow vehicle we see here.

We created a hitch mounted mudflap kit that is more appropriated sized for the average teardrop tow vehicle. It comes in two versions, one for a 2" receiver hitch and one for a 1 1/4" receiver hitch.

To see this new accessory please check it out here one our accessory page:http://tinycamper.com/accessories.htm#

I think you will like it!

Looks great Cary! Excellent way to protect the teardrop from road debris.

  5. Those look great. I'll have to look into them.

These look nice. Less expensive and smaller than the Rock Tamers we have. Our Rock Tamers are heavy, bulky, and make it awkward to access our rear cargo. They also reduce our fuel economy. Would mudflaps such as the Aries Universal Mud Flaps that install behind the rear tires

work just as well at protecting the trailer, without any of the drawbacks listed above? It says they have a quick release system, so they can be removed when not needed. Would they be suitable for Subaru Outback?

As somewhat new to the CI towing (3'000+ miles last year with our Outback), I have not seen any issues with towing and road debris. We have an alcan cover on our 560. Traveled mostly hard surface with only gravel and dirt roads at low speeds....not opposed to additional protection, but not sure....but looks like they would be effective if.we did more off road or gravel road driving...R

Even though we have the alcan cover on our 560, we noticed quite a few dings on the curved sides of the 560 (directly behind the alcan cover) after driving about 40 miles on a gravel road. I wish we had had those mud flaps! Might have to purchase those!

I suspect they are going to be popular Greg, even with the alcan. As someone pointed out earlier on the forum a good set of mudflaps do more than just prevent dings also. These would eliminate the concern of water being driven into window condensate drains and also will keep the trailer generally cleaner. The more road spray and junk off of the road surface you can keep off of your aluminum the better looking it stays, less stains from "stuff" found on the surface of a road.

These look pretty interesting Cary. How thick is the material?

    Ken,

The flaps themselves are standard 3/16" thk ribbed truck flap material.

Cary, would it be possible to post a pic that shows exactly how they attach to the ball mount? Thanks!

    Greg,

Possibly. It is pretty easy to describe though. Take the nut off of the 2" ball. Place the center support bracket over the ball stud and replace the ball nut and torque back to the listed spec.

So, basically the nut for the ball holds it on.

Would it be possible to bolt a short piece of square steel tubing onto the place where the bracket goes over the ball stud and just slip this over the receiver so you don't have to take the nut off every time? Or weld the square tubing to the bracket?

    Pat,

The whole point to a hitch mounted mudflap is you simply pull the pin for your ball mount and slide it out and the mudflap comes with it. This way any time you are not towing you do not have to have the mudflaps on the tow vehicle.

The center bracket is a short piece of tubing. The left and right mudflap arms slide into it and are retained by a bolt. You could take the retaining bolts out and slide the arms out if you want to use your ball mount without the mudflaps. I certainly agree you should not be taking the nut on and off of the ball once you have this installed and properly torqued.

    Cary -

From the pictures, it doesn't look like the mudflaps actually flap. They look fairly rigid. Any pictures from the front side, to see how they attach to the bracket arms?

They do flap. They are only rigidly supported on the upper few inches (depending on your hitch height).

I don't have any other pictures I can share this second. Because these questions keep coming up though I did talk to Craig and he is going to put the instructions on the website so you can open up the instruction sheet and view it. That will answer all of these mounting questions that are coming up. Should get up on the website soon.
