Air Conditioner Replacement For Crosley Cae5m Air Conditioners?

Discussion in 'Camp-Inn Options & Accessories' started by Wendell Ann Hanks, May 11, 2013.

  1. For those of us with the factory installed Crosley Model CAE5M air conditioners, what will be or now is the replacement for this compact now no-longer-made model?

Are there any woodworking modifications needed?

    Just thinking ahead.
    Thanks,
    Wendell

    Wendell,

The trailer is designed to accept a wide range of air conditioners in the 5000btu size range. So field replacement is pretty simple.

To avoid having to change or modify the wooden trim bezel pieces we recommend you don't replace the Crosley in event of a failure. Rather send it to us for repair. We are set up to repair and recharge damaged air conditioners and generally that is what we do rather than replace.

Read thread "AC solution' in custom additions. I've replaced mine. It took less than an hour.

  4. Matt-
    Many thanks for the input.
Please report the 30 minute installation sequence you used. Is the AC cover the venting on the roof line? My guess is the conditioner is then lifted from the interior up through the this venting area once it is removed. Correct? Is there any need to alter the molding in the interior? Do you know if Camp-Inn now uses this same GE model? We have no problems now. However, the time will likely come.
Appreciate any how-to data you can offer.

  5. Add'l info:
Matt's replacement air conditioner is a 5000 BTU (same spec as the Crosley) GE brand #AEW05LQ - at WalMart for $149.00. The size listed is 13.18" X 16.09 X 11.96"

    Wendell,

If removing the AC, contact us for the instruction sheet on how to remove the AC. We have a procedure for it.

We do not use the GE, we use either a Crosley or Fridgidare. The are identical and both made my Electrolux. Does the GE have a lint trap that is removable from the side or the front. A replacement should have a lint trap that not removable from the top, this eliminates a good number of replacement ACs. Also, concerning yourself with AC model numbers now is pointless, they change their numbers pretty much each year.

Once again. Don't replace the AC unit, send it to us for refurbishment.

Yes, the filter comes out from the side. It's exactly the same size. GFCI cord holes and trim piece fit perfectly. I have a picture of it in one of my photo posts about a year ago. Added benefits are 50 more btu, one more fan speed (medium), remote control, digital temp control, and a vent that aims lower than crossly. I know why Cary wants the pros to do it. It requires a special putty sealant called Mortite (that never gets hard)and gentle hands prying off the aluminum cowl.

  8. FYI
The Fridgidare version is at Loews. It does appear identical to the Crosley. $149.00. IF an owner does have problems with their unit, is the shipping and repair cost greater than purchasing a new unit?

    Wendell,

We don't charge to repair and recharge a AC unit. It is only the shipping cost.

  10. Cary-
Many thanks -- only having to pay for shipping is a very generous offer.
