Another Stolen Camp-inn!

Hey all,

We all need to keep an eye out for a Camp-Inn that isn't where it belongs. Another one was stolen. One of our customers in Phoenix just had her very new 550 Ultra stolen yesterday. It was parked in the alley while work crews where using their whole yard for a project on the house. It was hitch locked and parked in by her car. Some time between 11:00 and 2:00 in the afternoon the trailer disappeared. They drug it by her car crunching the corner of the car getting it out.

Serial number is #519

That is a real bummer.
It will only slow thieves down but I got an old hitch ball at a flea market and cut the threaded end off and plan to lock the hitch down with the ball inside when we leave the trailer.
How much can a person do?

 

You could chain it to a tree. Think giant bike lock.

 

Has anybody tried using a locking wheel clamp similar to this one:

I also use a hitch lock and loop the chains through the front wheel and lock them together.

 

From what I read one should also get a set of locking lug nuts otherwise a thief could just pull the wheel and replace with theres and drive off.

Also I noticed that "Bear" recommends the the Tri Max and I see it sells for $62.50

What are others using. I expect my delivery sometime in October but can probably put off this purchase till I get home.

That one will work (as mentioned in a previous thread).

Because of the hub caps (baby moons), many types of locks won't work.

 

WOW that stinks we hope they get it back.

 

Joan mentioned that she uses The Club Tire Claw. I noticed that there's an accessory "lug nut protector plate" available for use with the Club:

I wonder if that plate would work with Camp-Inns. Theoretically you'd only need to cover one of the lug nuts, to prevent someone from removing the wheel.

Since Camp-Inn teardrops are so small and light, I suspect that simply locking the tongue (e.g. with the Trimax) wouldn't prevent a thief from just chaining or tying the tongue to the back end of their vehicle and heading down the road.

 

Re writing this one. It looks like it might work since it is basically a cover for the lug nuts if they are exposed on the wheel rim. With the center hubcap on the CI not sure if it would work very well.

 

Has anyone out there installed a LoJack system or something similar?

There is a posting on the forum where someone installed something similar to LoJack, basically a GPS tracker that can be activated.

 

Be advised, LoJack doesn't work everywhere. If local law enforcement isn't linked to LoJack, it's useless. So I'm guessing if you're out in the boonies you might be in that 10% non-recovery category they don't like to talk about.

Also note that it's a constant drain on you battery as it's always on. I had to keep my bike on a battery tender all the time. Sad part is, where I live in Virginia, LoJack was like my cell phone …no coverage.

Not sure how they might work with or without the baby moons.. might just fit right over them?? dunno..

Stolen CI

Has anyone heard if there has been any new news on the CI that was stolen out of the owners home in Az. a few months ago?

Bill seems to think the tongue lock is all we need and I keep telling him we need a wheel lock! Somebody tell me the right one to get and I'll order it today! Thank goodness our 560 is garage kept AND locked. But leaving a campsite with just the tongue locked has always worried me. Help me out ya'll!
