Julia, it would be great to see you again, and your sweet pup. Mina will be along with us, and I am guessing Bailey will be there too, so it will be a fur-friendly event! Hope you are well!

Sorry, I haven't been on the forum all winter & noticed the post for 2nd annual NWCIRU. Can I still get in? Its looking like my Grand Canyon plans for the Memorial Day wknd are going to fall through. So most likely I'll be staying local.

Martha, if we get anywhere near 10 trailers the cost per unit should be reasonable. I think we are close to that. We have paid for the entire group camp which covers 10 units and has a maximum capacity of 20 units. There is an additional fee for each unit above the first 10, but it is not much. I don't expect that we will need to limit attendees so everyone is welcome. Watch this thread for further details.

And the other two in the area. Mayfield (not open yet) and Ike Kinswa.

Out of the 3 of them, Mossy has the better Group camping sites.
They have 3 all in a row, and one in a parking lot at the end with fire pits and some appear to have power, on the side. Group shed and restrooms right there.

The 2nd grp site looks like the most convenient, but spacing is a little close depending upon how many are going. Maybe one at every other space for decent spacing.

Mayfield has group also, smaller and out in the back fields. Was probably a utility yard at one time. Not impressive.

Ike - only had one section open, rest closed for winter and a day use across the road. Didn't see any Group sites..

More than you probably wanted, but it'll give a better Idea. General store and gas is 7 minutes away. Lot's of moles and geese.. so careful walking around, lake appears to be down.

There is nothing new to report. We just want to make sure this event is on everyone’s calendar.

The event is still scheduled for Memorial Day, May 25 through the 28th, at the Tacoma Public Utilities Power Mossyrock group primitive camp.

Based on the photos of the 1st Annual NW Camp-Inn Round Up that I have seen, the setup at Mossyrock is very similar to that at the Big Cedars campground?

There are nominally 10 spots for tents, RV’s or teardrops. We can accommodate up to 20 and as the rules say, if there is space you can pack additional units in. There are nice pit toilets and one water spigot. Sorry, no electric outlets or group shelter. Picnic tables and one fire ring are provided. The site is located in a very private part of the park.

Based on my dead reckoning, there are about 10 parties who have expressed an interest in attending this gala gathering. We will be taking a head count sometime in May and will determine how large the group is likely to be. If we are near 10 parties signed up we should be good, anything else just makes it more economical for everyone. Next year I promise, Betsey is going to be hired to organize this event. It is obvious that she knows what she is doing. The first thing she will do is rename it something clever.

It is time to count noses and/or trailer tongues for the Second Annual NW Camp-Inn Round Up.

The following is a list of folks who have indicated that they will likely attend:

    Name Location
    KathyBob WA
    fPoole WA
    Jenn TBD
    Evan & family WA
    Mick'nSarah OR
    JSL CA
    Slumry WA
    Bear TBD
    RVEGG WA
    allan_fran CA
    DianeJim WA
    Julia UT
    martha WA

I hope you will all be able to make it, as well as any of the rest of you out there. I also hope I have not overlooked anyone; if so, it was not intentional. Please let me know if you will be able to make it to the event, or if you are still uncertain if you will be there.

There are supposed to be 10 sites for RV’s and/or tents, and each site is supposed to accommodate a max of 8 people. Having seen the campground, I would be hard pressed to figure out where the 10 sites are. There is certainly room for more than 10 units and we have been assured by the park ranger that there is room for 20 trailers.

    So the fine print:

-The venue is the Tacoma Power Mossyrock park located about three miles southeast of the town of Mossyrock. Go up or down I5 until you see highway 12 and then go east until you run into Mossyrock. Go through town and follow the signs to the park.

-There are some services, gas, restaurants, etc. in Mossyrock, but not many. The park does not have internet and I do not know if any of the establishments in Mossyrock do.

-The site is the primitive group campground; it is located on the first spur road that goes north from the entry booth.

-Check in is 2:30 PM on Friday and check out is 1:00 PM on Monday.

-We are not supposed to drive or park on vegetated ground. I am not sure what this means, they know we are going to be a bunch of trailers and there are several gravel patches on the site. It likely means that we will have to be a bit careful about where we put parked cars.

-Dogs are OK as long as they are on a leash.

-There is a regular pit toiler, one water spigot and no electricity. There are flush toilets and I believe showers elsewhere in the park, but they are a good hike away.

-There is not shelter, but there are picnic tables.

-There is one fire ring and that will be the only place we can burn wood. We will all have share.

-The price of all three days if ten parties show up will be about $50. We can get the bean counters in later if someone wants a financial statement.

-The lake is a reservoir and the water level can be unpredictable. The shore line is typical for a reservoir; don’t expect a nice sandy beach with palm trees. It is an interesting lake and there is excellent fishing. There is a boat launch. Boating is big here.

This will be my first gathering so in order to keep things simple this will officially not be an organized event, which is to say that it will be a disorganized event.

There is no organized pot luck, raffle, Whack-a-mole contest, hike, sing-alongs or field trips. If you wish to organize any of such activity, you are encouraged to do so. There will be happy hours where we can get together and share food, stories and libations, aka, a “Green Box.” Oh, there will be one organized event, a contest to find a really clever name for this event. Perhaps we give away another washer and dryer.

Shirley and I look forward to meeting everyone. If I missed something or you have questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Stephen

Stephen, thanks so much for keeping us organized. Laddy has been telling us how much he wants to go fishing, and this might just be his first go! Can't wait! Mick will be fresh off a plane from the UK, but I will fill him up with beer to combat the jet lag and make him more social (and I will let him nap in the car...hopefully laddy will too!).

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone! I was out in the trailer today, getting some new things put in, old things taken out, the usual stuff better organized, and getting myself excited to start getting out again!

See you all in a cople of weeks!

Stephen and Shirley - we 2nd/3rd/4th the "thank you's" for putting this together. We will arrive on Saturday (but will pay you for the whole weekend), so the rest of you can decide where you want us to put the TD. We have a "screen room" in addition to our REI Alcove which we'll throw into the car and can set up - if we remember how - if we need some extra shelter. Desserts are already in the freezer and we'll bring appetizers to share at the "Green Box."

Also, Cary had given our phone number to a woman in Seattle who was interested in taking a look at a "live" TD. So, she and a friend drove down on Saturday to take a look. We invited them to stop by Mossyrock over the Memorial Day weekend to check out TD's with options that we hadn't selected, and to ask questions of some more experienced
TD'ers than we are. They say they are "lurkers" on the forum, so: Laura and Jennifer, hope to see you again!

I suspect that Memorial Day weekend will bring a huge number of campers to Mossyrock and that more than a few will wander over to our encampment to take a look.

Looking forward to seeing all of you. Kathy

Thanks Slumry for the pseudo-organizing :) I'm still planning on coming. Might arrive either late Friday or sometime on Saturday. Is it OK if if I bring a non CI friend? She'll be in a tent.

I don’t make up the rules; I just interpret the group’s consensus. I don’t believe anyone in the group would turn away a fellow camper; a CLASS A RV on the other hand is not camping. A tent camper is simply a future Camp-Inn owner. The only reason I am trying to get folks to RSVP is so that we are reasonably confident that we have a minimum number attending to make the cost per attendee reasonable as well as to ensure we don’t have way more than 20 parties attending. The site is pretty elastic so I am not too worried once we get around 10 parties attending. As for unit costs, I am not sure if we do the accounting by event or by day or we use some other metric. It appears that there will be folks coming in after Friday that will not be there for the full time.

I'm planning on arriving Friday after morning traffic. Believe it's about 2:15 hrs from Seattle, so probably arrive around noon or so. Will be looking for a site on the outer edge... see you all there..

    Edited:
Leaving Seattle around 12:30 so arrival around 3-ish or so Friday...

I will be arriving on Friday evening depending on when I can leave work and the traffic.

We should be there either Friday afternoon or early evening. Just depends on Micks flight, and when it is landing. If he is too tried, he might come out Saturday morning, but we will target Friday.
